Guest wears white wedding dress

A friend of mine got married this weekend. A guest brought a date who wore a white lace wedding dress. Really!?! What would you do in this situation as the bride?

You poor thing, don’t let it bother you, it’s over with and now you know!
If you really feel that worried, if you’re friends with the brides, maybe next time you hang out just mention that it’s been weighing on your mind and you hope they weren’t offended! If you aren’t close, just forget about it, I’m sure they have!

Given the controversy surrounding it, best to err on the side of caution. Nobody wore white to my wedding, but I think I would have been put off if someone wore a completely white or ivory gown. I don’t think it would have ruined the day or a friendship, but I would have noticed. I’ve also been to weddings where a guest wore white and in both cases TONS of people were gossiping and side-eyeing the guest. I know one woman loved the negative attention and bragged about it at our table and to some mutuals afterward.

This exact scenario happened to my cousin. She chose a colour that wasn’t popular for that season, but her frenemy wore a dress that was almost identical in colour, but a different style. Because the style was different from the other bridesmaids, some people actually thought she was the MOH. It was cringeworthy.

Honestly? I would laugh. Everyone else will be judging them and everyone is going to know they aren’t the bride, so no use getting worked up about it. Best to save it as a funny story to remember back on and share some laughs about. At the end of the day, she’s the one looking foolish, not meSmiley winking.

See, this would bother me so much more since it was intentional AND because, since it wasn’t white, no one else would know what a jerk she was being and she could easily play it off as she had no idea, if anyone was to say anything to her.

I'd brush it off, if I even cared in the first place. I agree that upstaging the bride with a wedding dress is petty, but it's your own choice whether to let that bother you. It's your wedding day, just enjoy it instead of stressing out about some crazy guest.
