Guest Transportation

Lauren, on May 12, 2019 at 11:46 AM Posted in Planning 0 10
Our ceremony is in the same location as our reception which is about 20 minutes from the hotel our guests will be staying in. Most people are coming from out of state and will have rental cars. We’re trying to decide if we should rent one large coach buss assuming most guests will want a ride and have it leave at one specific time. Or do we get a smaller van leaving at one time and hope that the rest of our guests will drive themselves? We’re planning on 75 guests or under. Does anyone have any advice? What are y’all doing for guest transportation? Everything is so expensive!

I've been invited to a wedding where you had to RSVP for transportation to the venue. If you wanted to be on the shuttle, you had to let them know in advance.

Ours is the same as yours. We are renting enlarge bus. We have about 50 people using the bus and the immediate families and wedding party will uber since we have to be there in advance. 90% of the guests are from out of town so I didn't want them to worry about how they were going to get around.

We will have a large amount of out of town guests as well and our hotel is about the same distance. We will be having a shuttle of some sort , for convenience and also we don’t want our guests drinking and driving.

I’ve been wondering what to do about transportation for my guests and ourselves too. Neither of the hotels close to my venue offer shuttles.

One van making one trip seems...awkward. Who gets it? Is it first come first served? So the early birds don’t have to worry about driving but everyone else does?

Transportation, in my opinion, is NOT a requisite, in case you have special circumstances (— for us it was essential due to limited parking and dark windy road conditions). I’d kind of go all or nothing here. Don’t offer to a select few. Offer to everyone, or offer to no one. A small van works only if it makes multiple trips— is that possible? You’ll either have people counting on transport or not, so you have to give advance warning. If you have only one van, and everyone plans on using it, and then can’t, have they planned for back up? That’s the sort of thing you need to be concerned with — don’t need to provide transportation, but if you do, you gotta go all in.

We have the same problem and Uber/Lyft aren’t available for the area either.

Find out if any of the hotels will provide their shuttle service to the venue for free. Our venue is about the same amount of distance from the hotels we booked and one of the hotels has a great business relationship with the venue.

We put transportation as an option on our RSVP cards. Our blocked hotel is 30 minutes from the venue, so we are paying $1,151 per 55 person bus. As of right now (we don't have all our RSVPs yet), we need at least 1 bus.

Not yet! We have some time to decide but it looks like we’ll be spending more than we had budgeted for due to a lack of options in the area.
