Guest Transportation - How many used it?

L&G, on December 30, 2014 at 4:28 PM Posted in Planning 1 8

For those who are already married, if you provided some form of guest transportation (shuttle, bus, taxi service) back to hotels after the reception, what percentage used it?

For a 3 hour shuttle, it will cost me $700, but there is no guarantee that anyone will use it which makes me nervous. I don't want to pay $700 for a shuttle that sits empty all night.

We are considering using a taxi service (guests take a taxi back to hotel, and taxi company sends us the bill), which is great because we only pay for what people use, except that if every couple takes a $30 cab ride to the hotel (which is the closest and calgary sucks for that), then it will cost over $1500.

Which would you pick? I want to provide transportation because our venue is just outside the city limits, and I want guests to have fun and relax without worrying about driving.

How terrible is this if I can say that I honestly don't know? We had a shuttle available for our use through one of the hotels we blocked at and I have no idea if anyone actually took advantage of it or not. My sister did something similar at her wedding and the guests did use the shuttle. Everyone was pretty happy with it.

At my cousin's wedding she rented a bunch of travel buses. She told everyone there wasn't any parking at the wedding ceremony location (truth) and the buses would leave the hotels at x time and return at x time. As far as I know it worked out really well. On our way back from the reception the bus we took dropped off anyone who wanted to continue drinking in the downtown area and we just called a cab to take us back to the hotel later.

We're having a shuttle to and from the church for the ceremony but not after. The wedding's at a hotel and many people will likely stay there. Others will most likely stay at other hotels walking distance (5-10 mins tops) away so we don't think it's necessary.

I didn't use them - but I think they're helpful. I personally (as a guest) wouldn't use it because I don't like being away from my car/I like being in control of when/where I go, but for some who plan on drinking...

In many situations it's a great idea but I can't stress timing enough; leave LOADS of time for people to load in, ride and load out. At least double the amount of time for the ride.

Make people RSVP ahead of time. We did that and it worked perfectly-- it also made sure that people knew it was actually available. Doing it that way, about 60% of our total guest list used it, but if you only considered the ppl who stayed at the room-blocked hotels, it amounted to 75% of them. So, it was pretty popular.

Exactly-- we put it as another section on our RSVP card, and had separate boxes for each of the two blocked hotels. A couple ppl didn't mark either way, but we were able to guess whether or not they would want to use it and as long as it didn't put over the seat capacity, we didn't have to confirm with them.

If you provide it, and make sure your guests know about it, they will use it!!

We are planning on a shuttle for our guests, to move them from the hotel to the venue and back at the end of the night. I know that all the guests staying at the hotel and maybe even some additional guests will take advantage of it.

At 2 other weddings I've been to that provided a shuttle for the guests, I would say 90% of the guests used the shuttle.
