Group Hotel rate

imgettinmarriedin2011!, on December 4, 2010 at 11:40 PM Posted in Planning 0 19

Hey everyone.. hope you all had a good holiday.

When looking for a hotel for your guests - how much is the norm. for a rate? I am starting to look around at hotels, and I really do not know what is a good rate, or what I should try to stay at. We are getting married in NY and it is a Saturday morning.. so our guests will probably have to stay 2 nights.

Also how much do hotels generally drop their rate for a group????

Thank you in advance

My wedding is in FL and my hotel is charging $119 nightly so I blocke 10 rooms.

    Hope this helps.

I would check the hotel's online rates. Typically, the Internet rate is the lowest offered without a group rate. So you want to make sure your group rate is lower than that.

We got married at a marriott in boston on a sunday evening (only time they rent out the rooms we wanted). anyway, the rate was $229/night if ya can believe it. the price/night was less if booked through AAA. I highly recommend checking what the price/night via AAA & if it's less than what the hotel will provide let your guests know.

If you're looking in the city (like midtown somewhere) don't expect to pay in the 100s.

Can you do the room block in Jersey?

The hotel manager, depending on how busy the hotel is that weekend can drop the rates by 20-30 in some cases. Just make sure you can get their shuttle service to run on the day of the wedding.

Our hotel wouldn't drop a cent. They said they could fill their rooms with or without us since it was near Christmas, and didn't even want to let us have as many rooms as we wanted too!

Then Kirsty, that shouldn't be "your hotel". With an attitude like that before checking in, what type of service do you expect from them? Something to think about for the big day.

We're getting married in Downtown Indianapolis at the Holton Hotel. They gave us a group rate of $109/ night and the rooms would usually be $219. So, it seems expensive to me since a lot of my guests will be traveling. But, they also wont have the rentl car expense since all activities will either be in the Hilton or very close. So, I'd check with the hotel and see the best group rate that they can give you. Any hotel SHOULD be happy to book groups!

It'll be fine Smiley smile They weren't uncooperative really. They hold christmas parties and wanted to keep aside so many rooms for the people at those. They also have regular mid-week business guests that they save rooms for. We went in and wanted to book up more rooms than they had left with what they had in mind for setting aside for those things. We managed to negotiate with them to have more rooms than they wanted us to have, but not to give us any sort of room discount. It's ok, we can live with that - in return, we're not having lunch there the next day, instead we're all off to the local pub!

I would maybe try going to the hotel. For us it was easier to talk to the people in person. We blocked off 20 rooms at our local Days Inn for 71.99 a night. It's during hunting season otherwise it might be less. I had then block it off for the night before and the night of. That way if out of town guest want to come the day before so there isn't as much driving the day of. Plus I'm hoping the FIL will take the chance to stay the night before so we have a little extra help the day before because I'm sure they aren't going to want to have to come to town the day before and then have to drive home again and that's about an hr drive and then come back. I'm also hoping they will stay the night of that way his mom and grandma can be there when we open gifts. It would only be right considering his grandma has been there for his cousins when they open gifts I'd like to think it wouldn't be any different.

I'm getting married in NY also and that is a normal rate for a group cause one hotel i was looking at was $169 for 10 double bed rooms, but they wanted us to pay for the extra rooms if they weren't used which is crazy cause they could just release them and use them, so we did not go with them. make sure you ask that question as well. i have to go look at hotels next week when i'm in NY

Our hotel reduced the rate by $20.00 below the internet rate, we also advised guests that online searches may produce better rates.

The rate a hotel offers highly depends on the occupancy, and the season. Weekends during wedding season are highly expensive on most places that are popular for wedding. You can find some tips here if you want to try to try to negotiate with a hotel for group rates for a wedding
