Groomsman gift ideas for gay men?

Mark, on March 29, 2021 at 10:26 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13

HELP! Every gift you you see on every website assumes the receiver drinks, hunts, fishes, plays golf, and of course, is straight. Helooo, it’s the 21st century!

Get something that fits their hobbies and interests. Just like the women do. What are they into? Go on Etsy and see what works for them within your budget.

Wedding party thank you gifts do not all have to match each other. Shop for each person individually like it's their birthday or Christmas. What are each of their interests? Purchase gifts based off of that instead of a one-size-fits-all gift (unless they all have the same common interests, then it's totally fine to have their gifts all match!).

Etsy will probably be the best place to go. They have so many great companies that have really nice gifts. I agree with others to buy something that they are interested in or is a hobby. Also I've seen on other posts about gifts is that for a wedding gift it's best to shop for the people in the wedding as if it was their birthday or Christmas.

You should shop for your wedding party, whether or gay or straight, like it’s their birthday. Buy things specific to their hobbies and interests. We had mixed genders and sexualities in our bridal party. One of my bridesmaids is a tattoo artist so she got a leather bound sketch book, one of my bridesmen loves whiskey so he got personalized whiskey glasses. Base your gifts on the individuals and not the groomsman section on Etsy.

    Hey Mark!

Cufflinks, pocket squares, I've even seen cool pocket watches come back into the fold lately! Etsy is great place to find unique gifts!

Ha, my husband is very straight and has no interest in hunting, fishing, or golf (but he does enjoy booze). I always find it best to skip the gifts marketed towards groomsmen and bridesmaids and go with something you know they will personally enjoy and actually use (I'm a huge fan of practical gifts). I'm also a fan of customizing gifts for the recipient and not feeling obligated to get everyone the same thing. People are unique and their gifts should be too!

Etsy is a great place to look for inspiration. If they like to cook, consider a custom apron, food kits (like a hot sauce kit or DIY spice rubs), something for their kitchen, an easy grow indoor fresh herb garden, etc. Creative and artsy folks might enjoy a painting kit or macrame project they can spice up their home decor with. If they are into fitness you could get them a nice monogrammed gym bag or towel set. There are so many options!

Thanks, all! The best suggestions so far were to get out of the mindset that all gifts must match, and to get away from conventional ideas of “groomsman gifts”. I personally have two monogrammed steins on my back bar shelf that I don’t believe have ever contained anything other than dust. I found a monogrammed leather guitar strap for one brother (ironically, the straight one), and the monogrammed gym bag and towel idea for our fitness-minded nephew is another great idea. Ideas are now freely flowing! You folks are fabulous!

My husband has gotten a few really nice dopp kits as a groomsmen! Some definitely golf themed, but also some small leather bags that were more adult. 😉

For our wedding he found a great deal on refurbished wireless JBL speakers and gave those out as his groomsmen gift! We got a speaker for ourselves as well and use it all the time. 🎵

Knockaround sunglasses would also be a really fun gift! They have styles for like $15, come in tons of colors, and are good quality sunglasses!!
