Grooms wedding ring $$$

My husband and I each paid for our own wedding bands. There's no way I'd buy my husband a $5k ring, even if I thought there was zero possibility of him losing it and he'd wear it all the time. I would also be LIVID if he spent that amount on a single piece of jewelry for me (our three rings combined are far less than that, actually I think all of the jewelry the two of us own combined is less than that). Money and value is relative, and some people buy $20k wedding dresses and others buy $200 ones, but regardless $5k seems like a lot for something he might not even wear most of the time. Also, I feel like taking on debt for jewelry (or a wedding) is a big mistake.

If your entire wedding budget is $15k, spending a third of that on a ring seems out of place to me. I'd have a conversation with him about it. As husband and wife you are going to have to talk finances and find ways to compromise and get on the same page about spending - might as well start now.
