Apparently NO ONE in FH's family knew that you were supposed to wear white or and shade of white to a wedding, Especially if you are gonna be in photos. It started when we were discussing with FMIL what she should wear to our wedding. I said my colors were shades of purple, and she said she...

Apparently NO ONE in FH's family knew that you were supposed to wear white or and shade of white to a wedding, Especially if you are gonna be in photos. It started when we were discussing with FMIL what she should wear to our wedding. I said my colors were shades of purple, and she said she preferred to wear blue which i said was fine. Then i said our other color was cream, and she was like oh I can definitely wear cream. Then FH and I both said you arent supposed to wear white to a wedding, ESPECIALLY as one of the mothers. She said she had never heard of that. Which I find surprising. Then the next day, FH grandmother, said she had bought her outfit, and it was sparkly and cream. And of course she has already taken of the tags. So we had to have the conversation again with her that its really not appropriate. And she said she had never heard that...except FH told me aside that he is pretty sure she were white to her other grandchild's wedding and was told something then as well...

Who cares? You have so many other things that you could be stressing over...Grandma wearing a cream dress shouldn't be one of them. And if she has worn it to her other grandchildren's weddings then it has now become her signature "thing." My mom's dress is a light champagne color and I think its beautiful! Nobody it going to mistake Grandma for the bride. I would let it go and move onto things that are more worthy of stressing over

Unless she's picked out a Lovely white tulle headpiece and a crown, I wouldn't worry about it. It honestly doesn't matter at the end of the day who wore what.

It's cream and it's Grandma. Get over it. My god, the amount of energy some brides waste on this sort of trivial crap is unreal.

While irritating, it's Grandma, not someone easily confused with the bride :]

DH said he'd never heard that rule before - I was surprised! I thought everyone knew that.

My mom wore cream to my wedding. My brother's girl friend wore white. No one really cared. Everyone looked great in pictures.

Don't make a big deal out of it, because it's not.

I do not like seeing guests wearing white at weddings, but I mean..it's GRANDMA! IMO, grandma can wear whatever she wants.

As someone who no longer has a grandmother, I would have killed for my grandmas or my FH's grandmas to have been able to attend our wedding. They could have worn huge white ball gowns and I would not have cared - just having them there would have been so special. The *people* in your photos matter most, not their clothes. Please remember that.

I actually never heard of this etiquette rule until I was planning my own wedding. No one in my family has, either. So although I'm definitely on the "I don't care what color anyone wears to my wedding" boat so I wouldn't be upset about it, I will just say that I don't think it's uncommon for people to not have heard of this before. It's definitely possible that she didn't know about it or that it didn't stick with her from her last grandchild's wedding.

Not taking sides or anything; just stating that there are definitely some people who have no clue that this rule exists. I was one of them. =)

Honestly, if it were anyone else, id be like "guuuurl please" but its grandma.... In all honesty, most older people leave earlier, and kind of hang out on the sidelines regardless. Its okay. Id let my grandmother wear bright white if it meant she were coming. (she passed 2 years ago)

If you/FH have a good relationship with her, but it bothers you what someone else might think, make people believe it was an honour, and you asked her to wear white/cream to show her how important she is to you guys. Smiley smile
