So my wedding is based on the Great Gatsby theme, do you guys have any advice on food that can set the move & does my music have to match the theme as well??

The Great Gatsby is pretty depressing. I don't really think a depressing theme would be a good one for a wedding.

Ain't no party like a Gatsby party cause a Gatsby party don't stop until at least two people are dead and everyone is disillusioned with the Jazz Age as a whole.

Yeah, I read that on a t shirt but please say 1920s or Art Deco. The Great Gatsby is about deception, adultery, the decline of the upper class, and the dissolution of the American Dream. Not love.

My wedding will be Art Deco because it's in a old 1920s bank. Guys will be wearing black tuxes, girls floor length blush dresses and our colors are blush, gold and black. My dress has some beading that my FMIL thought fit the vibe. Other than that and the invites that's all "theme" we will be doing. We wanted it to be glamorous not a costume party

@Jaqui, best response to Gatsby themed wedding ever. AND I did a spit take at the thought of a Wuthering Heights wedding!

My wedding is also a GG theme sort of. Doing black, white, gold and pink. The bridesmaids are wearing long black dresses with gold accessories.

Didn't alter food or music to match because I didn't want a themed party feeling.

This theme idea always cracks me up...someone was absent the day the English class actually discussed the novel.

Seriously, it's my favorite book of all time. I've read it about 30 times and have 16 copies of it from first edition to penguin paperbacks. It's not even close to an appropriate wedding theme. What you mean is jazz age, or roaring 20s.

My great grandparents actually got married in 1920

As for the theme. Art Deco, not Gatsby. Don't over do it. Little touches. Nothing that screams you went to party city and grabbed everything. You'll figure it out. There are great tips online. Your BMs will tell you what they feel comfortable in. The caterer will help you with food that's delicious and supports the overall style and tone.

Great gatsby or Art Deco. I've never understood great gatsby as a theme. It's a horrible story to center a wedding aroubd

Well... I mean you could have picked 'red wedding'.. That's probably a shade worse then gatsby but it's cool just use random literary references you don't get to describe your party. No one will ever know.

Let the Gatsby thing go. It's a sad, depressing book and as many have pointed out, not appropriate for a wedding. Have you read it?

Go and do that and then get back to us.

Thanks for the comments you guys they are really helpful, & maybe you all are right I do need to change the theme. I ran across it on Pinterest & seen the colors & the decorations & that's what really drawn me to, I didn't think too much of the negative things that are associated with the movie. I love the pearls, & feathers & the headpieces. Plus it's more of a romantic era & very elegant in my opinion.

@Lakeshia - if you don't know, off the top of your head, what kind of food is right for the 1920s, your guests won't know (or appreciate) either. Just pick something tasty. Not everything needs to be thematic.

@Jacqui - is it wrong that I kind of want to marry you instead of FH now? Best comment ever.
