GoPro worth it?

S&R, on June 18, 2015 at 2:05 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 34

FH and I are trying to decide if we should buy a GoPro or not to take on our honeymoon with us. We want a camera we can take with us in the water and any land adventure we decide to do. Does anyone have any advice on if GoPro cameras are worth it? What do you or don't you like about them? Or a different camera that can do the above mentioned?

I wish I had one. We did a lot of water based activities that we have no pictures of because we didn't want to break our phones or my dslr.

FH and I love ours. I took it zip lining once.

I like how they are made for action, so you can kayak or zipline with them. The picture quality is fantastic.

Following! We had this exact discussion last week. We want people to pass it around the wedding since we didn't allow for a videographer in our budget.

YES it's awesome. Check out my instagram @emilymalone11 i have some cool gopro shots from our honeymoon including a time lapse and from under water. I got the 4 and it connects to your phone by creating a wifi network. Put it on your registry, we got it as a gift! Make sure you get the necessary accessories

ETA every pic was taken from our go pro, even the smaller ones in the collage- should be 4 pictures and one time lapse

Jenn that actually sounds like a cool idea. We can't afford a videographer either.

E=mc2 I actually had my shower last Sunday and didn't even think of registering for it. We actually just started talking about it last night. We did get a lot of money from our shower though to do whatever we please. Do you have any accessories for your GoPro?

We were on the fence - but someone i work with just got one for their trip to Hawaii and their pics were awesome. We aren't professional photographers - and having not owned one before we opted for the Hero3+ black and got the refurbished one on GoPros website. We've never had trouble with buying anything refurbished and it comes with a warranty.

We haven't gotten accessories yet - but everyone says to get the stick and a little tripod for the time lapse, and possibly the floating thing if you're snorkling.

We are also thinking about bringing to the wedding and having a cousin film the ceremony and random moments since we won't be having a videographer.

GET ONE!! FH and I borrowed one for our last vacation and bought one of our own when we got back. So worth the money. @Jenn @S&R I will have a couple GoPros going around for our wedding too. I understand it's not a replacement for a videographer but I think it will still come out pretty cool after our friend edits it (he's an editing pro Smiley smile)

I am so glad someone asked this! FH keeps asking for one every birthday/Christmas then is like "no never mind I don't need it..." We haven't decided on a honeymoon spot but there will definitely be a beach.. I am thinking we definitely need one now!

The only ones we used were the extender- we should have had the remote though. There's a water proof case that is also pretty much mandatory, and we keep it on there always just because we're paranoid. With the water proof case you can get a "float" so if you drop it in the ocean it'll just float right to the top... otherwise you can get something like most digital cameras have to go around your wrist, or sticks that go around your wrist.

GoPro 4 silver, check out amazon!

I am definitely going to check this out. Thank you all for the advice. I'll definitely make sure to get the water proof case and probably the extender so we can hold it out in front of us and get pictures. Are they easy to use? I am literally so bad at anything technology related. I can barely figure out my laptop and I'm 23 and have take a computer class in college lol

Heck yes!! Best purchase we ever made. I would definitely get the 4 because it has a preview screen on it. And surprisingly it takes amazing photos! I love love love it, it was super helpful in Hawaii recently. Here are some I took to show the photo quality:

I bought one for FH for our...4th anniversary? Maybe our 3rd? Anyway, it was a little expensive (550&dollarSmiley winking but worth every penny. Before he sold his motorcycle he took it on a trip, and got like 3 hours of just video coverage alone. Amazing. One time, it fell off his bike (going 125kms/hr), broke a piece off and all he had to do was replace the piece and go. Super easy. We take it quadding (ATVing), exploring..and we are definitely taking it to Mexico for our DW!

@S&R First thing IMO is that the 4 is more expensive than the older ones but SO much better in quality and functionality.

This one is great for snorkeling because it will just pop up if you drop it:

We use the wrist strap one a lot, you can twist it in the direction you want. We did use it for snorkeling but it is annoying to adjust if you're in the water and want to adjust is quickly. This is the set we got that came with the wrist strap and a few other mounts.

ALSO the battery does suck so get two, every time we got back from using it we would swap out the batteries just to make sure we didn't go completely dead.

    SORRY this is so long!

We researched a LOT before we got ours. Watched a lot of side by side comparison videos on YouTube first. We ended up getting the Sony HDR-AS30V because it had much better sound quality than a GoPro. We love it! I think we got our money's worth the first time we used it in Honduras!

Go on amazon, they have a ton of bundles. Just found this one which would be better than JUST the orange floaty portion

Kinsey no problem, thank you for all of the advice. We are going on a Southern Caribbean cruise and I know we booked snuba adventure, dolphin swims and a cave tour. So I definitely want good pictures of that.

FH originally wanted to get one for our vacation in St. John this past February and we never ended up getting one. Now I think we definitely need to either register for one or use wedding money to get one next year. Would love to have this for our honeymoon!
