Goose poop

Ashley M, on December 9, 2016 at 12:53 AM Posted in Planning 0 25

So as of right now we have our ceremony booked at a Catholic Church. I've come to realize this is not what I want. I grew up catholic but I really do not want a catholic ceremony. I found a beautiful spot by a lake at a local county park. It's $120 for the entire day so we could have our ceremony whenever we wanted. I went to look at it a few days ago and there was a ton of goose poop. The parks employee said there is minimal clean up in the winter and in the summer they clean it every morning but by the afternoon geese come back. Has anyone dealt with this? Did you just hire someone to come right before? I don't want goose poop all over me or my guests.

What time are you planning on getting married? If you're talking about an 11:00-ish ceremony followed by a brunch, then I think you're fine. It'll still be clean. If you want a later ceremony, then you'll want someone to clean it up first.

Also, be careful. If the geese are in the habit of turning up every afternoon, they will be at your wedding whether you want them there or not if you have an afternoon wedding. Geese are creatures of habit!

My friend had a goose and ducks walk through her wedding. I thought it was awesome...she didn't so much. Other cons are you can't stop random people from being in a park and their noise. But it all worked out...however..if I were you I'd be afraid of the August heat. Book an indoor space or have an indoor backup for sure!!!

What do you think about this place? It's a roof overlooking a lake. They have a back up room just in case of inclement to weather. $172 per hour plus $30 fee for the person who makes sure no one from the public access the wedding.

Do they normally have weddings there? We have a place near us that has weddings and tonnes of fucking geese. They actually have 3 people that go out and chase the geese and clean up after them before weddings. They also have areas where the bridal parties can't go for pictures because of the geese.

The second place is gorgeous. I like the 1st one too but it would be nice to not have to worry about goose poop.

I think the second one is a better option, although in August I might be worried about a rooftop over a lake being super hot. What time of day is your ceremony? It might be good to look into indoor options with air conditioning if possible. My dad still complains about a wedding he went to that was by a lake in in the summer like 30 years ago where he practically sweat through his suit lol.

Second place looks beautiful! Do you know if there is any other weddings there soon that you could check out what it's like?

A rooftop in August? Way too hot. If you do the lake, call a company that scoops poop at people's homes. I"m sure they'd be happy to scoop goose poop. Canadian geese are rampant here, so I've had plenty of experience with them in our yard. Be prepared to have a few feathered guests at the wedding. That could be really charming!

I would mix it. Geese can be awesome, or they can be really, really mean. Like, will bite mean. They're little honking assholes sometimes, especially if they think you have food. To them, seeing Kleenex or big white dress is probably going to look like a WHOLE crapload of bread and will likely attract them, so be aware.

Geese are mean - I wouldn't have anything to do with them. Place #2. Do you have a place to go indoors? August outside can be miserable

The second place looks like a great option---assuming you don't die of heat. I almost died of heat on my Sept 25 wedding...it was outdoors and 65 degrees. Wedding dresses are HOT.

My wedding is inside a lakeside pavilion building, but I want to take pictures outside beforehand. This is one of the places I want to take pics - but there's tons of fowl crap. I just made a mental note to bring a rake or two to take care of it in the morning while we're setting up, and have it on hand when we go out there for pics. I could probably ask if they have groundspeople to do it for us, but I don't personally think it's a huge deal.

The second place looks much better and would work more for your guests. Then you wouldn't have to worry about goose poop

I'm with MNA - geese can be mean AF. I was feeding ducks once and these 2 jerkoff geese came running in and demanded I feed them. Who am I to say no to hissing geese, but it was slightly terrifying. They also could not give two shits about anyone else. They used to form a single file line across 2 lanes of traffic right outside my workplace and refuse to move for anyone.

Anyway, I think the second venue is gorgeous. However, potentially sweating to death in the middle of August is almost as bad as dealing with a-hole geese. I'm sure the 2nd venue has done weddings in the summer before, I would ask them how other brides and their guests have battled the heat.

I ageee it's really not worth it. They said they only do about three weddings a year but I think it's because it's not well known. They did say that one year it was to hot for a brides grandma so they moved the ceremony into the room they have as a backup plan for inclement weather
