Good month to get married in

April, on October 25, 2016 at 12:36 PM Posted in Planning 0 27

So I'm having a difficult time choosing a wedding date. I'm having it outside but I don't want it to be too cold or too hot. So what's a good month to get married in?

When does your venue have dates open? That is what will determine your date. I wanted a May wedding, but they were totally booked until September.

It obviously depends where you live. In the tri-state area where I live, I'd be pissed if I attended an all outdoor wedding in any month but May or June. Maybe September.

The other problem is you can't predict the weather (duh). It was literally 80 degrees in central PA 2 weeks ago - IN OCTOBER. And humid. And then last weekend it was around 45-50 degrees - who wants to be outside in that?

@Greenebunny lol I apparently heard that getting married in May was bad luck? I always thought a May wedding would be perfect weather! The beginning of spring here in Indiana! But September is super nice here as well. I just like spring more than fall lol.

That's why I decided to get married in fall. Also your venue will help you decide your date. A lot of places are booked way in advance.

I'm in Mass and our wedding is June 10th, the ceremony will be outside and there is a deck with seating and firepits for guest to use all night as well.

We did October. It's our favorite month - cool but not cold, beautiful colors, awesome food. No contest.

Our venue helped decide our date. I'd look at venues before "picking a date".

Then go with what month you like personally. Do you like spring or fall? Those are most likely going to be the times with the most comfortable weather. April-June and September and October are the most popular.

For guest comfort, the temp needs to be between 65 and 80. As you can imagine, this is extremely hard to predict. Therefore, pick a month where that temperature is likely and have an indoor backup. If the temp is lower than 65 or higher than 80, you need to move it inside.

Consider where you are hosting the wedding first! If it's in the south, you may need to choose early spring dates. If you have a perfect venue in mind, they may have months that costs different amounts, consider how your budget factors in and ask the venues what their off-peak season pricing is.

Know that weather is never guaranteed. Mother nature likes to play tricks, so factor in the cost of tenting, fans, heaters, umbrellas etc as backup when you are planning. It's always good to plan for an alternate so you don't have to dance in the rain on your big day. Some venues may offer an outdoor ceremony option and indoor reception.

Whatever month or date you pick, your day will be perfect for you.

I would go with whatever month you like best in terms of weather/feel. I love cooler temps and fall so for me October was an easy choice!! (I really hate the heat so to me any time from May-September is risky on that front since it's not uncommon to be well into the 90s in those months)
