Good idea's for music?

Molly, on June 6, 2019 at 4:16 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 11
My fiance and I are getting married in October. We have been quoted by two dj's, both $1000. We don't necessarily have the money to afford the DJ because we are trying to buy our first house together/sell mine. Does anyone have any good idea's for music. We liked the idea of buying a PA system and connecting our phone/ipod and doing music at our reception on our own. I'd love if anyone had any other ideas. Thank you

A friend had a musician friend. Borrowed their equipment and the musician ran the ipod.
Another option might be no DJ. Skipping the dancefloor and going for a dinner party type vibe. But I feel like if you're getting married in 4 months, you have this figured out and not willing to change your vision.

We were planning to use Spotify and a good PA system, but decided to splurge on a DJ to avoid the hassle of dealing with it all night. It is completely doable if you have someone who can man it, otherwise you’ll have to worry about when to switch playlists, when to make announcements, etc. There are some great tutorials online. You’ll probably have some people try to talk you out of it, but you can still have a great wedding without a DJ.

If you decide to play music from an iPod, a good idea is to still have a designated person who will have a mic and act as the MC as needed (especially if you plan to have a grand entrance, toasts, etc). Besides playing music, the DJ plays a big role in verbally updating guests about what’s occurring next. They verbally keep the night going. But if you’re fine with events like the 1st dance, cake cutting, grand entrances, etc occurring without anyone introducing it (and only the music playing), then go for it.

Also, if you’re not having any specific events occurring at the reception, then only having background music playing is a perfect alternative. If you select this route, an ipod is typically better to avoid calls coming through and disrupting the music. That always sucks! Lol

Thank you!! Our wedding is very small, about 45 people max and so our reception is going to be at a rather small place. I really do like the idea of having someone in charge for sure. I'm thinking my brother in law with a mic Smiley smile

It sounds like for such a small reception, foregoing the DJ is a much better idea. Im sure you'll still have a good party without one!

I'm going the cheap route and having a big Playlist from Spotify premium and just going with that the whole night.

I mean our entire budget is around the $1500 mark.... So a DJ or band is out of the question and then it came to me... Just get a big long and tedious (because I have to make it lol) playlist for the entire night! Also I put on the details card that they could send us songs that they like to be played (since it's a small number of guests, it's very possible).
