Going to a Bridal shower

Alejandra, on August 17, 2013 at 7:54 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

My friend's bridal shower is coming up in about two weeks. I've never been to one in my life (they are not the norm in my family/circle). I know where they are registered but my question is, do people purchase the gift online and mail it to their home or do are gifts wrapped and brought to the shower? I don't want to show up "empty-handed" so is it better to just bring the physical gift with me?

Also, how long does these things usually last?

Bring the gift with you. Also, I didn't know this (but seriously, I think everyone else in the world does, but just in case.....), bridal showers are generally somewhat fancy, so even in my Super Casual Area-- everyone was in a dress but me! Oops! Next time around (another shower that same summer) someone *else* showed up in shorts, so clearly I wasn't the only one who didn't know (that time, of course, I'd worn a skirt).

Definitely bring the gift with you. As far as attire, you can contact the host and just dress casual (no shorts please) It's varies. When you arrive, you should be provided an itinerary. You should be able to guestimate from there.

Definitely bring the gift with you. All the showers I've been to, they open the presents there and everyone oohs and awws. It's fun. I would say usually they are 2-3 hours.

Bring the gift with. Attire, I think it's usually safe to go dressy casual so a nice pair of slacks and blouse, skirt, or casual dress. The ones I've been to have been around 3-4 hours, and half of that was just watching gifts get opened..... the other half was playing games.....I'm not a big fan of showers. They're pretty boring IMO.

Definitely bring the gift with you. I agree with Pan on the attire. Most of the showers I've been to people wear dressy pants and a decent shirt or jeans and a nice shirt.

In my family, bridal showers are really casual. Jeans, t-shirts, no biggie. For FH's family, everything is a reason to dress up, including going to dinner. So, my sisters had to put on the invite for mine a dress code so people knew to wear something nice! Lol. My wedding is going to be funny, I'm going to have people in causal clothes and people in suits!!! Lol.

Some I've been to they play silly games, serve some food and cake, and then you watch the bride open gifts. FSIL's was only two hours long. It was nice though, as it was mostly just socializing. A lot of showers I've been to have been boring but they're bearable.

    I would take the gift.

Showers are sort of like birthday parties -- there will be the opening of wrapped presents, and there will be cake, and there might be games.

Bring gift. Every shower I've been to I've worn a dress whether it be a sun dress or more dressy. You can probably email the host or even check the place where its being held that should give you an idea Smiley smile usually they last 2-3 hours. Have fun.
