Going dress shopping in the morning

John Smith, on January 17, 2020 at 10:28 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6
I’m going dress shopping tomorrow (Saturday) and I’m so anxious! I’m the first in the fam to get married and my sister and mum flew in to go with me - which I really appreciate, but they’re both super jet lagged and kinda cranky.

I could really use some encouragement and would love to hear the *good* stories that you have from dress shopping. I’ve heard too many bad stories!
I also want to thank you all for the advice that you’ve given me over the past few months in terms of what to look for and how to handle the decision-making process. I appreciate you all to much ❤️

Found my dress and fell in love. I think the less people you bring the better but here is what you need to remember. Say yes to the dress that you love even if they do not. Do you hair a bit nice and do not wear make up as to avoid staining the dress. Be open to suggestions from your consultant. Good luck.

I had 4 of the most important women in my life there with me and it was a blast. I had done some research beforehand and found a dress that I needed to try on. As soon as I saw it and touched in in the store I knew it was a top contender already. It was the second dress I tried on and I fell even more in love and it was “the one”!! I tried on 3 other dresses after that just to give them a show. Lol I didn’t cry right away, I was too excited and couldn’t stop smiling and touching my dress. I didn’t have my tear filled moment until my consultant Torie told me to close my eyes and imagine my and my fiancé’s life together. That’s when the water works started. It was a precious moment and I can’t wait for the next one in my dress to be when we are announced as husband and wife.

Have so much fun tomorrow and enjoy the wonderful day with your family! Hoping you have a fabulous experience!

Aww AnnaJoy have fun!! I also took my mom and sister (and aunt) the first time, and it was one of the best days ever!! The first wedding dress I tried on (I saw it in the window) was the one I ended up purchasing several months later!! Anyway, after shopping we went out for mimosas and appetizers to talk and laugh and celebrate the moment, it just felt so special. Enjoy your day love!

Have fun and be you is the best advice I can give. Everyone will have their thoughts and opinions but just remember it is your wedding day and the dress you will be looking at for years in your photo's. I had wonderful experiences in my bridal dress shopping and I stuck to what I knew I envisioned for myself on that day, everyone else will end up loving your choice on that day. Be open to trying on new styles or even things you wouldn't have thought of before, you will be shocked what you do and don't like on yourself and many dresses look significantly different on the hanger than they do on your body. Don't critique yourself too hard either!! Wear heels that are easy to slip on and off and also nude undergarments including a strapless bra if you have one available. I did my hair and make up nice too, like I was going on a date with FH, to ensure I saw myself in a flattering way in these dresses and not like I'm about to head to the grocery store in it. Can't wait to hear about your experiences and I hope you find the one!!

The best advice I was given before my dress shopping experience was:

    1. Look nice. Do your hair and makeup when you feel better about your appearance that translates better for dress shopping than if you go in just rolling out of bed and throw your hair up. It's easier to get the final image when you're halfway there already.

    2. Try on everything. Even if it is styles you think you hate or are unsure about. I tried on several dresses that I liked on the models or in the pictures that I saw that looked terrible on me. And when I finally branched out into some styles that I wasn't so sure about I found my dream dress. (In fact i HATED my dress on the model in the pictures....but loved it on me)

    3. Remember that not everyone has that "omg, tears, hallmark movie" moment when dress shopping. For me it wasn't so much tears and whatever...it was "holy crap...this dress makes me look good!"

Thank you all for the advice!
We started at David’s Bridal and I was suuuppeeerrr discouraged because all of the dresses that I had found on their website that I didn’t like they didn’t have in the store. I didn’t like any of the dresses that the consultant brought me and it wasn’t until the very end of the appointment when my sister grabbed a dress for me that I actually found the first dress I liked. It still wasn’t “the one” but it gave me hope!

We left David’s Bridal late so we were late to our next appointment, which was at a boutique. I called to let them know I was going to be late and they said that was fine, but when I got there we still had to wait 15-20 min for them to see us and they didn’t have have any of the main “stages” so I took a smaller one. BUT their dresses were gorgeous...and almost all out of my price range.
My sister ended up pulling one that was right at my budget and I ended up really liking it! I didn’t say “yes” yet because I’m still going to 2 more stores on Monday, but I’m very excited about it and will go back on Tuesday if I decide to go with it.
