Godmother's dress...why?

FutureMrsD, on August 29, 2016 at 4:51 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 33

My godmother is my moms best friend from high school. Shes been like an aunt to me, more so than my actual aunts. She was shopping the other day and bought her dress for my wedding already and its my wedding color with bling. She is the type of person who has to one-up everyone (still love her though). But she's going to upstage my mom for sure as they are sitting at the front family table together. My mom is on the plus side and it is going to be a struggle finding a dress to compliment her. Im not gonna ask her to get a different dress, but she knew what my color was. Just venting, but ugh. Now Im gonna stress about my mas dress and making her feel beautiful. Shes super self conscious as is it and I want her to be as comfortable as possible and feel like a million bucks, lol. Anybody else have family out there trying to steal the spotlight a little? Lol

No family trying to steal spotlight but my mom is plus size so I can understand. My mom actually bought a simple dress added some ruffle sleeve to disguise her arms(she hates them) and the bling she is adding will be with jewelry. Hope your mom finds something perfect for her! I added my mom pic with her dress it actually hides her tummy very well which is what she was the most worried about.

Welcome!! Just find styles that are figure flattering for her. You can make it a girls day and go dress shopping with her. P.S my mom found this dress at Ross lol. She had bought a dress before this one and decided this one fit her best.

Sadly. Not the best picture color wise but its royal blue. My mom sent it to me. She tried to hide that she was a little hurt because this is the type of dress she would have wanted. She was such a good sport about it. I feel bad. Its hard because we live 10hrs away from eachother. I gotta find her the best dress for the best woman with the biggest heart lol Smiley smile

It's pretty but with so many options I'm sure you can find mom an amazing dress!! So I wouldn't be too bummed out yet.

It's pretty, but as another guest at the wedding, I wouldn't remember it five minutes later.

I've never gotten why a person can't wear the wedding colors to a wedding. There are so many colors you 'can't' wear (white, black, I even heard red), that throwing in two more means you could be limiting guests to wearing three colors.

@sarcastibride I'm only unhappy because she will be at the front family table with my ma. Which now that I think about it, I may have to switch that up lol. My point is, shes not just a regular guest. And I certainly dont want people thinking shes the MOTB. I just dont want my ma to feel like shes been upstaged by her best friend, she does that every day.

Don't know if this is her style, but what about this for your mom?

I did deal with this type of thing, because my mother is narcissistic. It's always got to be about her. Even on my wedding day. She tried to make me open her wedding gift in front of everybody at my BBQ, so she could get the ooos and aaahs (it was a 'family quilt' she started when I was married the first time back in 1998). I dragged her off to open it in private, and then hid it so she couldn't bring it back out. She ended up leaving early because she wasn't getting the satisfaction SHE wanted.

@lacy that's gorgeous! Only problem is its an outdoor wedding in June so shed need short sleeves, or maybe a thin shawl made of tulle. Her hot flashes are the worst haha. But I like where your head is!

I got my bridesmaids dresses from there amd the girls range between a size 6 and a size 20

The godmother's dress is a fairly typical dress for a wedding guest. What type of dress did you expect her to get?

Honestly from your description I was expecting something more like this. That dress seems like a a normal wedding guest dress to me. I'm sure your mom will be able to find something beautiful that looks great on her and your godmother definitely will not steal any spotlight

She is absolutely NOT going to outshine your mom. You have plenty of time, and I think you will find something that will make your mom feel beautiful.

You have time. Just find something that compliments your mom, & make sure she's comfortable in it.

Could she go with a long dress with a slit? I would also consider having your mom choose a different color. What are your wedding colors? Could she wear a gold or silver dress so she stands out?

I doubt any will mistake her for your mom , but I totally understand wanting her to feel good.

Don't let it rattle you, FMD-- if your mom and godmother are that close, your mom must be a pro at ignoring this kind of nonsense. Why doesn't your mom buy something in a completely different color? Only the BP if expected to match the wedding colors, anyway.
