Go to the salon or have them come to me??

Dr. & Mrs. R, on January 6, 2015 at 12:14 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 20

Which worked better for you? I'm not sure what I'm doing on this yet. Not sure how my girls feel about wanting to do their own hair or get it done. (Haven't asked yet, I'm going to.) I cannot financially assist with them getting their hair and/or make up done so I don't think I'm going to require it. Just didn't know which was easier and less expensive.

My hair and make up people only charged a $40 travel fee. So it was by far worth it for me to have them come. I didn't want to go anywhere the day of my wedding. One issue you may run into though is a minimum, some places make sure you have at least 3-4 people having hair and make up done in order to travel to you.

Let your girls know it isn't required but see if anyone wants it, then you'll know if you have enough people to make it worth them coming.

I wanted to have them come to me...so when I found someone to, I gave my BM's the option of doing it with the people I hired, or go out on their own (should they want to) and they all chose to have their hair/make up done by the people that are doing mine, but at their own expense.

I'm having hair and make-up come to us (getting ready at my Mom's place). To me the travel fee ($100 for hair stylists, $0 for MUA) is worth it to not have to worry about getting stuck in traffic, travel times, etc. All around it seems less stressful to have everything in one place. Some Hair stylists and MUA don't charge travel fees, so I guess it may not be more to do depending on who you go with.

Last summer I was a bridesmaid and we went to the salon to get our hair done, and then another place to get make up done, before going to the venue. It made for a full day of running around, but it worked out fine, and it saved us some money. Depending on the location/proximity of the salon to your venue, it'll probably be fine. But if you'd have to drive across the city or something like that, then it'll probably be worth it to have them come to you.

We went to the salon, but I was also paying for my bridesmaids to have their hair done. It was easier (and far less expensive) to do it at the salon so we didn't have to pay a travel fee for multiple stylists. It wasn't stressful to go to multiple locations. We showed up at the salon at 10 am, were done by 12:30, grabbed lunch, and were at the venue before 2. We still had time to chill and drink mimosas before the photographer got there.

Definitely coming to me. Aside from the fact I don't want to go anywhere, I don't want my BMs to have to be running around either. Another thing, which may be me being vain, but my photographer will be with me getting ready and I don't want the salon as the backdrop in my pictures.

I'd rather have it at the venue. Driving (anything more than 5 minutes) would give me anxiety that traffic was going to hit, car problems, running behind schedule. Having everything at one place not only gives me a little more wiggle room in my scheduling, but a relaxed feeling with minimal moving around day of

I forgot to mention that my venue is my FIL's house where the groomsmen will be getting ready. That's in case they need help setting up or moving anything. We are getting ready two houses down. But the guys are going to straight blade shaves that morning.

My hair stylist/make up artist will be traveling to us. Luckily she's not charging a travel fee. My bridesmaids are getting their hair and make up done by my stylist and her partner. I'm not requiring it though. I let my girls know that I was getting mine done, and asked if any of them wanted to get it done too and let them know what their cost would be. 3 of them said to put them down for hair and make up and 1 said just make up. Definitely doesn't hurt to price it out for them and give them the option to have a little pampering if they budget it Smiley smile.

As far as what's easier between going to the salon or having them come to you depends on your location and if you have space to get ready in if they come to you. My Salon is about an hour from our venue, logistically it made sense for them to come to us, plus my venue has a large bridal suite to get ready in which will work perfect.

I'm in the same boat. I live a hour away from everything but I don't want to be the one rushing around and stressing so I'm looking for vendors to come to me. I have a MUA in mind but still searching for a hair stylist.

MUA will be coming to us. Unfortunately, we will have to travel to hair. My stylist was going to come to us, but she changed salons and now we have to go there. It's not to far from where we're getting ready, so it's more of an annoyance than an acutal problem.

We went to the salon. I also didn't have room in the budget to pay so it was completely optional. I provided transportation (there were 7 of us total, we fit in my SUV, including my mom & my JB's mom who wanted in on the action) bc everyone was OOT. It was easy and I didn't want to rely on my hair/makeup team getting caught in traffic. My salon doesn't travel but we had fun. Photographer arrived back at hotel as did my girls who did their hair offsite/on their own. It was pretty dang easy, all in all.

I really have my heart set on having my beauty team come to me. I do not want to deal with the stress/hassle!! We have a large bridal party (8 BM plus 2 moms and a flower girl) so it will just be so much easier to stay in one place and have hair & makeup come to us. We have a conference room reserved in the hotel where we have rooms blocked.... the girls (all of whom will be staying the night at the hotel) can bring all their bags, etc. with them and store them there before check-in, we can wear our robes, have a spread of food and mimosas, listen to music, etc. I just picture it being a relaxing and fun morning!

ETA: Something to think about, if you are not requiring hair/makeup for your girls, they may feel really awkward sitting at a salon while everyone else is getting pampered and also, they will not be able to do their own hair and makeup at a salon.

I have only had where the stylist and make-up artists are there with the bridal party the day-of getting ready. In my experience, the bridal party has always paid for their own hair and make-up and I didn't think twice about it. If you can afford it, I think having them come to you is awesome. Everyone's stuff stays in one place, less hustle and bustle, etc

We went there because they had a cuter get ready room then our venue and it was close to where we wanted to take photos. Otherwise I would say have them come to you...and if your doing first looks or photos before if you can afford to have them do touchups before the wedding...then make sure to add that in too.

My hair stylist/MUA gave me the option, but she did warn me that it's been her experience that when brides get their makeup/hair done away from the salon everyone is constantly asking questions/distracting the bride so it can take a little longer than in a salon. Just food for thought Smiley smile I still think I'm going to have her come to me. Most of my bridesmaids decided to do their own hair/makeup so I didn't want to leave the other girls out that aren't getting services done.

MUA and hair stylist are both coming to us, but both are optional for my ladies. Some of them opted to have one done but not the other and some are doing both. We could have gone to a salon in town, but I'm already less stressed knowing I don't have to worry about it (and neither do they if they don't want to).

I had all stylists (3 total) and one make-up artist come to my house. I provided snacks, drinks, and mimosas for everyone and tipped the stylists and make-up artist for their extra travel.

I was in a wedding where we went to a salon, I feel like we spent more time running around than actually getting our hair done. For my wedding I had the hair stylist and the make up artist (different people) come to the venue. I was so relaxed, I didn't leave the location and didn't feel rushed at all. I gave the bridal party the option of getting hair and make up done. 5 did hear and 1 did makeup but everyone agreed that they liked having the vendors onsite.

I am having someone come to me. I have a large group, 12 including myself, all the BM's, mom and step mom and aunt ... I wanted to be able to relax (as much as possible) and enjoy. We have a suite and a few smaller rooms booked for the wedding between the wedding party so we are planning on spreading everyone out and rotating people thru the 2 hair stylist and 2 make up artist that will be coming out to us. I am praying my plan of a more relaxed laid back morning with snacks and mimosas is better than hauling that many people to a salon.
