Go on honeymoon immediately after or wait a week?

So FILs are paying for our honeymoon with hotel points, so we can choose from a couple options. Originally FH and I wanted to go to Italy, but the hotels were a little too expensive for their points. So, we decided on Spain which is just as great! I'm so excited and thankful. But we still have to chose because of the points, either go right after the honeymoon and get a garden view, or wait a week and get the ocean front view (which would still be separated by a pool). I personally don't care what view I have because it's frikin Spain and still awesome, and personally I'd prefer to go on a Honeymoon right after the wedding. But are there benefits for waiting a week?

We had thought about putting the honeymoon off for a bit. But then I thought of how unenthusiastic I would be having to go back to work on Monday after my wedding. That's why we decided to go right after the wedding.

I don't think there's any added benefit if you decide to go immediately or the week after or the month after or the year after. The only benefit is being able to get "special treatment" because it's your honeymoon but the timing of that doesn't really matter (unless you decide to go 5 years later and claim it's your honeymoon lol). Looks like your choice just boils down to whether you want a garden view or ocean view, and if you can or can't wait an extra week.

I would ABSOLUTELY wait the week for the upgrade. Smiley smile

We're waiting 10 days to go on our HM because the resort we were set on was booked the week after our wedding. I am taking the Monday after the wedding off work though.

    I would wait!!!

But could you and FH take off the Monday and Tuesday after your wedding? That way you get a couple days off and get your ducks in a row and prepare for your amazing honeymoon. You'd only have to work a few days (which going back to work is fun at this point because your recently married and people will be congratulating you and youll be on cloud 9). and then you have your amazing trip. That what I would do.

Personally, it stresses me out to no end to think about leaving the day after my wedding for my honeymoon. For one, I know i'll be completely exhausted. Two, I need to get my ducks in a row (gifts and cards need to be put safely at home, dress hung up, bags packed..etc.) Sure I could do most of those things before the wedding, but i'd rather have a couple of days in between my wedding and honeymoon to get my mind right. LOL

I'd go right away. Having to go back to work for a week in between would kill my buzz.

FH and I will likely have to make a similar decision based on flight costs. We haven't decided yet but I've been told by a few people that it would be nice to have some time to gather yourselves before taking off again. Although it seems dreadful to go right back to work I'm actually leaning towards waiting a week. That way you can pack for the wedding and vacation separately, won't be so exhausted trying to fly out day after the wedding, more time to bring everything home like decorations, get your life back in order a bit, maybe cash your checks or handle any other logistical things left over.

Personally, I would want to wait mainly so that I could catch up on sleep and not start the honeymoon exhausted. I doubt the view will really make a difference to your enjoyment on the honeymoon, so I wouldn't base a decision on that.

I agree with PP's, I wouldn't wanna go to work the week after the wedding Smiley sad I actually had a somewhat relatable issue: our honeymoon would be over July 4th so the hotel we wanted to stay at in Lake Tahoe was already booked solid. We would have needed to wait until July 5th, but I didn't want to make the compromise, so we found a different hotel and will be there July 2nd through the 6th!

A week isn't that long! And an ocean view could be nice! Some pp mentioned not waiting to get honeymoon benefits but from what I've been told by our agent generally honeymoon perks are added as long as you were married in the last 6 months! So if that's your only hold up I say wait and get the view!

Hmmm I'm starting to like the idea of going a week afterwards, just to recover. A couple people I know got sick immediately after their weddings once their adrenaline slowed down. It would be nice to rest a bit afterwards, but I would hate to go back to work like others have said.

We are going immediately after but mainly because I didn't want to have to hang out with my family all weekend after the wedding so sitting on a plane the next day sounded better... never thought about getting sick or putting gifts away but I trust my mom to help with one of those things hopefully lol. we are using 7 vaca days for our wedding and honeymoon so I didn't want to use anymore lol

We are waiting a week. Our decision to do this was to be able to spend as much time with our OOT guests as possible. We also wanted to have that week to get things settled at our house before leaving. We both love coming home to a clean house so making sure it's clean (several of our OOT guests are staying with us) was also important.

Yeah, we're also having a lot of out of town guests, so seeing them will be nice. I also love coming home to a clean house Smiley smile

We are going in nov 2018. It's mostly due to too much going on at that time- wedding and the kids graduating. It'll give us a chance to go someplace warm and nice when it's not so warm here. I'm also planning on taking off the entire week after the wedding. I don't want to get married on a Friday and go back on a Monday. Yuck

That's what I was thinking...I'm hoping to be down at the beach and exploring Spain, not staying in my room staring at the sea...that's why the view doesn't matter to me...

We actually waited a month and it was a great decision. So much happens on your wedding day that having some time in between gives you an opportunity to reflect over how great the day was and to enjoy being husband and wife in your daily routine. It also give you something else great to look forward to and you'll be more relaxed when you actually leave for your honeymoon instead of being all pumped up from the wedding day.

We're waiting a week, leaving immediately would have been too stressful for us and we couldn't have enjoyed the entire wedding (I'm paying for it, I want to be there the entire time). I also want to try and spend time with guests who are hanging around the next day, since so many are from very far away. Initially we preferred to wait a couple of days, but because we're using a timeshare we're limited on when we can check-in, so a week it is. We might work the week in between, might not, haven't really decided yet. Might do a mini-staycation.

I'd definitely wait for an upgrade.

I would wait - just for the mere fact that you can relax after the wedding, not have to be stressed on making sure your bags are packed, can soak in the details of the wedding and really enjoy those few days with your spouse. I think waiting a week is perfect timing because the wedding is still so new that you won't feel like it is just a regular vacation and the bonus is you can get excited for two things (1st the wedding and then the honeymoon)
