Glasses

Rachel, on June 16, 2020 at 9:05 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 2 35
Hi guys!! I was curious if anyone has or is getting married with their glasses on. I can't decide if I want to get contacts or not, because I feel like most brides do. I personally like my face better with glasses on, but I'm so torn...

If you like how you look with your glasses, go with it! I opted to get contacts because I had glasses that tint in the sun, so I didn't want it to look like I was wearing sunglasses in my wedding photos.

Get contacts if you want to, but don't do it just because other people do. This is only about you and the person you're marrying, who probably likes you with glasses anyway. If you only wear contacts for the wedding, you won't look like yourself in your pictures.

As an eye doctor, PLEASE start This process a few months ahead of time if you want contacts for your wedding (even as a guest). NOTHING is more heartbreaking than a bride waiting until a week before her wedding because too much was going on, only for me to tell her that her lenses are special order only, or we find out her eyes don’t tolerate lenses well and she ends up with a nasty eye infection and red eyes. (Both of these scenarios were real cases of mine).

If you want lenses and typically don’t wear them, call your eye doctor and DONT wait. Be patient, expect a few visits and be nice!

I'm going to wear my glasses because they're part of me lol. I may get a more fancy pair, but I honestly don't want to look not like myself.

    I’m an eye doctor too!

Alyssa is wise in her recommendation.
If you also prefer your look in glasses then rock them on your wedding day!

I wear glasses but I will have my contacts. My FH will wear his glasses, he doesn’t wear contacts. Either way, you will look fine.

We both have glasses and are just going to wear our glasses. There really is no downside to wearing them especially because you already wear them all the time.

My fiance and I both wear glasses most of the time (we even have the same exact prescription lol) but will be wearing contacts for our wedding and reception. We usually wear our contacts when we go out or are active so we are used to them. It's totally up to your personal preference and what is most comfortable. If you decide to wear contacts for the ceremony, you can always bring your glasses to change into for the reception. You will look amazing either way Smiley smile

If you do decide to get contacts, I'd recommend getting dailies! You don't have to worry about cleaning them and they are much easier for someone who only wears contacts once in awhile.

As a photographer, I suggest you get non-reflexive glasses! Otherwise some of your pictures will have glares on the glass, and it’s super annoying and disappointing.

I was curious about contacts about a year out for our wedding, and after talking to our photographer about how much easier of a time he would have if I was wearing contacts I decided to give them a try. I do plan on wearing my contacts most of the day for our wedding, but having my glasses close so I can switch if I feel like I need to. Besides what the eye doctors above said, it also take a while to work up to being able to wear them all day. Even after seven months of wearing them 3ish days a week, I still struggle to wear them more than 12 hours. The goal is to be able to wear them all day long, but realistically it may just be for pictures and the ceremony.

Wear what you want to wear. If I typically wore glasses, I would not try to get contacts just for the wedding. I prefer wearing contacts regularly, but have some glasses that I do like to wear around the house or on days that I just need to give my contacts a rest. My FH has only worn glasses since I met him. And definitely if you prefer the way you look on glasses, I would do that.

I wear glasses everyday, and am kinda terrified of using contacts. I never once thought about not wearing my glasses for my wedding. They're honestly a part of me. (And like you, I like my face better in my glasses.) I've heard that it's easier for photographers if you don't wear them, but mine never said anything about it at all.

My FH almost always wears glasses and got himself a new, special pair of glasses to wear for our wedding. They probably match his suit in some way but I have no idea since he’s keeping his outfit and accessories a secret until the big day! Just a thought for if you want to wear glasses to look for a special pair!

This thread actually motivated me to call and get an appointment to get new glasses (I currently have transitions - not good for an outdoor wedding), and possibly contacts. Smiley smile My FH wears reading glasses and I think he looks dashing, but he doesn't need them, though I may see if I can convince him to wear some for photos.
