This drives me crazy! Is there any way to discourage it?

Yes, i'm thinking it's a dying tradition. If someone does it and it starts to get annoying...we just wont kiss and go on with what we're doing. They'll get the point.

Have the DJ announce the alternative way to get you to kiss (if you are doing an alternative way)

are you looking for alternative ways?????

Yeah, alternative ways are good. I just can't stand the sound of the glasses.

My favorite ways I've seen to get the couple to kiss are to sing a song with love in the title, quote lines of Shakespeare, and my favorite was a couple had to stand up and kiss each other then the bride and groom had to copy the kiss. One old set of grandparents stood up and seriously made out with each other, it was too funny!

When we are asked to avoid the clinking... we do a "one time" review. When the clinking is going on... we call everyone's attention to the bride and groom. And then we let them know... that any time the glasses clink... the bride and groom will select which table will kiss... and EVERYONE at the table must kiss the person next to them. On both sides.

    That usually stops it.

As an older woman I can tell you that it is a dying tradition (personally I love it so for me I find this sad).

I also think that you can't stop guests from doing it. At our wedding, our guests did it twice and that was it. Further....just don't kiss. If you ignore it the guests will realize you don't want to do it and won't continue.

Honestly, it's really not something that is going to make or break your wedding. Kiss once and let it go.

We've found that guests enjoy the love song for a kiss game as an alternatative to clinking.

What we did was take our yes RSVP cards, put them in a basket and every 5 minutes a BP member pulled a card out. The couple on the card had to kiss and DH and I then mimicked it. The crowd loved it! There was quiet a few "R" rated kisses, but it was a blast!

Haha - my uncle-in-law (if there's such a thing Smiley smile) asked a day or two before whether we were allowing this to happen. We had no idea there were any other options! We didn't do anything else, but he said that one of his friends had the DJ announce for their wedding that anyone who wanted them to kiss had to get the entire table to serenade the newlyweds with a song that included the word "love". He said it was both hysterical and helped cut down on the easiness of people clinking glasses. We probably only had a dozen clinks but they seemed to come in pairs. Really one right on top of the last! But it was fine. Smiley smile We didn't mind kissing! (Okay, maybe a little strange in front of our family and friends, but whatever. Smiley smile)
