Giving Guest Recommendations

Hello wonderful ladies. I know there is probably a post somewhere about this. I can't find it.

We live in Kansas City and will also be getting married here. Most of our friends and family will be coming from out of town. Since we are having a Friday wedding, most people are staying until Sunday. Most of them have never been to Kansas City. I was thinking of adding a page on the website with fun activities for families to do while here. Kansas City is big on beer so I was also thinking for the ones that don't have small children to put some links to beer tours and night life activities on there. Do you guys think this is a good idea? Or is it too much and let people figure it out on their own?

I think its a good idea if they have never been there before. A wedding I went to they did little goodie boxes for everyone staying in the hotel. It had snacks, waters, emergency hang over kits gum, chocolates and a fun little time time of the day of the wedding so people knew when and how to get to the ceremony location it also had a brochure (not sure if the hotel put them in or they did) of fun things in the area to do and see. We live in the area so we didn't do any of it but i thought it was great for out of town people.

I live in St. Louis and I did this for my website! I pretty much listed typical tourist attractions in the area, but I also listed more personal things like our favorite restaurant.

Yes! Our wedding was in Rochester, NY about half had never been there. We made a list on our website, which I also turned into a postcard checklist to go on their welcome bags. Obviously there are services like Yelp and what not but if you have time to make personal recommendations, they would appreciate it!

I plan on doing little gift boxes for the ones that book hotels. Since we have a few families they will probably stick to Air bnb because it's a little cheaper and more room. I'm pretty sure our wedding party is all staying at our house, since we won't be there.

I think I will get started on this. We have been to a lot of places here, and can give good recommendations on food, fun and family fun.

I think it's a good idea. If I was going to a town I'd never been to I'd prefer to get recommendations on where to go from someone local. It can be a bit overwhelming trying to narrow down what to do if you've never been to a city and only have a day or 2 to enjoy it.

I think this is a great idea. I did this for my guests even though I believe everyone has been here (NYC) at least once. I also included a section for transportation options as well. Even did our favorite food spots section. I think if you have the time it's definitely a nice gesture. Even for those who have been , but may have not been in a while, or would like to try something you and yours enjoy.

I was thinking that too. If I were going to an out of town wedding I would want recommendations. I can never decide, and I know out people are like that too lol. So maybe giving like 10 or so activities and places might be a good idea since they have two days to spend time around the city.

Hey!! I’m from Kansas City too! And also getting married on a Friday! I’m using Zola.com for my wedding website and it has a page where you can recommend things to do/places to go, eat, etc. I definitely think it’s a great idea to utilize a page like that!

I think it's a great idea! I made a pamphlet for our welcome bags with some things to do in the area since most our guests arrive Friday and our wedding isn't until 5 PM on Saturday. I listed some restaurants, things to do nearby, etc.! I also put some on our wedding website. I always think it's helpful for guests that don't know the area.

We toured that venue! It's really pretty! I was going to put Gates on there and boulevard because they do tours. Gates is my favorite! We haven't been to Q39 yet! Legoland and sea life is on my list as well!

I think it's a great idea! We're getting married here in MD, but some of my fiancé's family is from CA and have not been out here in several years. On our website we included a FAQ/Things to Do Section which gave a list of our favorite spots near the venue.
