Give me the gold.. spray paint

Jenn B, on February 20, 2015 at 3:55 PM Posted in Planning 0 17

I'm doing something like this for our centerpieces.. and have gone through two different types of gold spray paint and they are coming out brassy.

Anyone have any suggestions on one's they've used for bright gold?

I don't have a ton of experience with spray paint, but are you priming first? It might have to do with the shininess of the glass.

It didn't say I needed to- but that's a thought. It was rustoleum.

It's that like brassy color of gold.. which is nice too.. but i really want that bright gold.

Are you wanting a metallic look or a satin look? I got a metallic gold from Michaels. I can't remember what it was called though. The cap is metallic gold. I can look when I get home from work. I also have a Krylon Satin paint in some kind of latte color, close to the picture.

What about "antiquing" them? Spray dark brown or black paint on and then wipe off most of it before it dries.

There are lots more comparisons, but here's one.

Also, in my experience Walmart has awesome prices on spray paint!

There is a glitter blast? spray paint i got from Hobby Lobby that is quite amazing, in gold. Its a lighter shade, and not nearly as brassy as some.

    But Fyi, its ALL glitter.

LOL, gold is not gold. Gold is 20 shades of gold. There are so many shades -- from the real gold leaf look to brass. Check out this website. This lady did some experimenting with gold spray paints. Maybe her results will help you chose the right tone for your project:

I plan on doing the same for my centerpieces!

I haven't tried a mock up yet since I have a little bit of time to change my mind if it doesn't work.

Thanks for this heads up and thanks for these links

    Primer

    Spray paint gold

Clear *GLOSS* top coat (2 coats) make sure each coat is super dry before each coat.

I did this and it came out exactly like the photo

I am doing something similar with wine bottles. I used the Krylon brand metallic gold. Word of advice. Wipe everything down, use gloves, and try not to touch the bottles too much after you've cleaned them. Finger prints and any oil show through the paint. Good luck!
