Gifts for in-laws?

Melissa, on January 17, 2020 at 9:30 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 3
Hello? I have a question. My FH & I are having a destination wedding next year. My mom is helping us to pay for it. His family is not and I don’t expect them to but they aren’t even staying at the resort we chose for the wedding. They are coming to Mexico to spend 1 day with us. Am I expected to give my in-laws a gift?

It’s tradition to give the parents gifts on your wedding day. They aren’t intended to thank them for paying for your wedding, but for raising you and making you the adults that you are now, going into your new married life. You don’t necessarily have to give them a gift, but if your FH wants to, you shouldn’t discourage him from doing so.

Thank you for replying! At the end of the day we will most likely give them a gift but wanted others insight.

Hey there, Melissa. I agree with Caytlyn. The purpose of the gift is to thank them for everything they’ve done in your lives up to this point. The gift doesn’t have to be anything large or splurgy, but a nice token of appreciation is perfect Smiley smile
