Gifts for Flower Girls?

Renee, on July 1, 2016 at 11:02 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 26

I need advice about gifts. Originally, we had decided not to have flower girls or ring bearers and we are having an adult only reception. My MOH and I have been friends since middle school and she has two daughters (3 and 7). Long story short, MOH has browbeat and guilted (LOTS of guilt) me into having her daughters as flower girls because she doesn't want to tell them no.

Now she's hinting about what gifts I should get her daughters for being flower girls. We are on a super tight budget (hence the adult only reception) and I'm of the mindset that my gift to the girls is letting them be flower girls in the first place. Am I being petty? Thoughts?

I'm guessing your MOH probably put the thought in their head in the first place. I think a small gift for the flower girls would be nice. I did not include my flower girl and ring bearer gifts in my wedding budget, instead I just bought them at separate times with my "spending money" from my check. I have a completely separate wedding account that I did not use to purchase gifts from.

ETA - It doesn't have to be anything expensive. I bought a drawstring backpack that says "I'm in charge of the petals" and has her name on it and a picture frame that says "Flower Girl" at the top and at the bottom a poem that says "Thank you for sharing in our Wedding Day. We'll always remember the special role that you played." We're going to put a picture from the wedding in it. Both items together were less than $20.

We got all the kids in our wedding (5 total) remote control trucks from Best Buy for like $15 each. They all loved them. They were too young to value something sentimental so we bought them something like we would for their birthdays.

Thanks TMNT. Those are cute ideas.

And yea, I'm thinking MOH planted the idea as well. How else does a 7 yo even know what a flower girl is??

My niece (5yo) is my flower girl, and I got her a bracelet from Amazon for pretty cheap if I remember. It matches her dress and I'll be giving it to her at the rehearsal so she can wear it for our wedding if she wants.

For my flower girls I hand painted a small jewelry box in the wedding colors and got them each a matching necklace of a flower from Claire's. They were $1 necklaces (that they will wear at the wedding), the boxes were $1.50 each, and the paint colors were $2/bottle. I'm a big DIY arts and crafts kinda bride, so not only was it cheap, but I've had a ton of fun coming up with the idea!

I got my flower girl her little pearl jewelry set to match the bridesmaids and it cost under $30 on Etsy. I got my ring bearer a St. Christopher pendent and that cost $20 on Etsy. Pretty affordable if you buy them separately.

I won't be having a flower girl, but I've seen so many cute ideas on Pinterest of sentimental gifts you can give your flower girl for her (well in this case probably her mother) to save and give to her on her wedding day!

My daughter was flower girl and the bride gave her a picture frame and then one of the pictures of her with the bride from the wedding. It was such a nice personal gift.

Barbie dolls! Get two simple barbie dolls. I was a flower girl on a LOT of weddings and nothing made me happier than getting a barbie doll to play with. You are having an adult only reception, so the girls will most likely get bored. A toy is a cheap and great way to make them happy.

I got a silver handled brush comb an mirror set. I'm sure they aren't real silver, but they look great. Got them off amazon for 20-30. Best part is that they look expensive but aren't lol.

I got 2 of my flower girls picture frames (both on sale under $6), where instead of the picture I put "Will you be my flower girl?" After the wedding is over, I will give them a photograph of us that they can put in it.

For my other 2 flower girls, I found a 2 canvases with poppy flowers ($20 for both) on them in their favorite colors. I will tie a ribbon across them that says "Will you be my flower girl?" That way they can have it on display in their rooms.
