I know that the wedding favors or bonbonniere and history which is different than the gift bag so that is why not fully sure of where the origin of this “tradition” or practice is from. Or if it is even necessary or outdated like a lot of things we label as “tradition”

That’s mostly how I feel about somethings and why I ask where it came from. I understand the gift or token or guests and the 5 almonds and we have some family traditions as well that have been done I don’t even know how long but we do some. I have been planning and adjusting things but I am keeping it to things for us. A lot of that other stuff not doing. Cause I feel same about a lot and don’t need it or want it

Its definitely adds that top notch of hospitality. It's thoughtful and really shows how happy you are they will be celebrating with you! I dont think you need to break the bank, a letter or card left with the front desk is an easy and inexpensive option. You could go by some of your favorite local spots and see if they have any coupons you could put in with them. Stop at a rest area or grocery store and get brochures of nature parks in the area. Then customize your welcome letter with details of why this item was included, favorite restaurant, favorite scenic drive, childhood memories or the significance to the couple, etc...

If your budget allows for it you can go as big as you want. Add goodies from your favorite bakery, a sample from a local creamery, orchard, brewery or vineyard. Wedding Swag bags, coozies, sunglasses, etc... water is great as some hotels will charge for it. also ear plugs incase they have noisy neighbors.
