Getting tan for the wedding day

FutureMrs2017, on February 28, 2017 at 5:19 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 13

I would consider myself pretty pale. Usually I stay the same color all year round, with maybe some slight color during the summer. I think mostly due to the fact that I'm inside pretty much every day except Saturdays because of work. I was wanting to have some color for my fall wedding and originally thought about going to the tanning bed. After some horrifying stories I read, I definitely want to look into some other options. Has any one else done a spray tan and would like to share their experience? Also, has anyone had the color rub off on their wedding dress? Any opinions and advice are welcome!

If you decide to do a spray tan get the kind where they spray it by hand and not from a booth. But if you're typically pale it might look weird to you to have a spray tan. Embrace the pale! And there's always a risk it can rub off on your dress- I wouldn't risk it!

If you do go the spray tan route, definitely test it out BEFORE your wedding. Also, different places use different tanning solutions and techniques, some which work on some people, but definitely not on others.

I have heard spray tan does not look as nice in wedding photos but I have no idea. I would love to use a tanning method because I am super pale as well but not at the risk of looking funny in pics. I think I am just going to embrace the pale haha. Against my ivory dress I should look a tad tan....I hope lol

I second Lindsey O. The booths have a huge risk of streaking. Your fingers and toes may have dark spots that are noticeable. Airbrush is so worth the money. I highly reccomend doing a trial run to see how it works for you. Wash your hands and wear light clothing to see if any rubs off. Usually it doesn't rub off after the first couple of days so it is recommended to do airbrush on wednesday/Thursday before your wedding .

Spray tans make you turn orange after a few days and can get on your clothes. If you tan the right way and are only planning to do it for a short period of time (up until your wedding), it's not very dangerous, especially if you don't get to a sunburn.

You always want to start slow in a low bed. Make sure that the bulbs aren't new. If they are, take off a few minutes from your tanning time. Start at five minutes using a bronzing lotion.

Work your way up to 10-15 minute sessions. Once you're there, you can use a bronzing bed that will help you tan faster without burning, but you would also have to decrease your time.

I get airbrushed tanned. I would definitely suggest going for a trial run at the least once before your wedding, if not a couple times. And follow all the instructions for how to care for it.

My mom did a spray tan and she looked beautiful! She did it 2 days before the wedding and she got it done by hand- not in a booth.

I, on the other hand, went the unhealthy route and hit the tanning bed in the couple of months leading up to our wedding. I know everyone said to embrace the pale but I just felt better being tan. I built up my tan slowly over 2 months and don't use a tanning bed at all during regular life. I also have really tough Italian skin, which helps because I don't burn (I know that doesn't prevent skin cancer, but it did prevent all the dangers of burning!)

ETA: Picture with both myself & sister (who did bed tanning) & my mom who did the spray tan route.

I have done spray tans and love them. The first time I did a booth. For the most part it looked good, but my hands were all messed up. I got one last month by someone doing it by hand and had no complaints. It looked very natural and didnt have any problems. It was also the same price as the booth pretty much. The first day, it can get on stuff. Some places have an option of an additional bronzer or just clear. The liquid that actually stays goes on clears and sets and tans. It's the top bronzer that gets on everything. Once you shower (after 8 hours) nothing goes anywhere. Both times I've worn white dresses after and nothing got on them at all. Definitely do a practice one first to make sure it's the color you want. I wouldn't definitely go with the lightest one.

I hate spray tans. I've gotten two, both by the hand spray method not the booth, and they look ok for abot a day and then wear off. It would come off in patches, especially on my face because I wash my face everyday, so I looked like I had some skin disease. It was terrible. My body was nice and tan for a couple days, but once it started to fade, it faded unevenly and looked all sorts of weird colors.

Please either spray tan or just embrace the pale. Tanning beds are so so so bad. I used to spray tan and never had any issues. However, since it's for your wedding I would airbrush.

I've gotten a spray tan by hand and while it's turned out okay, I wouldn't do it for my wedding. I'd be way too worried about splotches/running/wrecking my wedding dress. I sweat when I'm nervous. I have anxiety thinking about all that could go wrong with a spray tan.

I used a spray tan for my cousins wedding and I think it looked great. There's different levels of color you can get including one that will continue to darken until you take a shower. I got mine at zoom tan when I had a membership. Just caution for your dress!!
