Getting Ready Robes

Caitlin, on January 30, 2017 at 1:28 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 18

My bridesmaids and I are getting our hair and make-up done in a salon before the wedding. Is it worth getting bridesmaid robes if we are not having our hair and make-up done at the venue. Will they be worthwhile to have while waiting to get dressed?

I am getting robes mainly as the gifts to my bridesmaids! We are getting ready at the venue, but even if we weren't, I think it's still a cute idea because you can still get some "getting ready" pictures even if it is just right before y'all get dressed.

I'm getting my girls button down shirts that they can wear while we get ready. I was going to go with robes but I thought if anything came up last minute and me or one of the girls have to run somewhere, the shirts would look better. The robes are a really cute idea tho no matter where you guys are getting ready at! And yes I think they will be worth it to have while waiting to get dressed

Maybe an UO, but I hate BM robes. Brides tend to buy those short, slippery ones, so I always feel like I'm one sneeze away from my tits and ass hanging out all over the getting ready photos. And I hate that being photographed while wearing a skimpy robe is somehow not optional anymore.

I've been given robes as a bridesmaid and knew it was nothing but a photo prop. It was promptly put in the donation pile after the wedding. The ones that people usually get for girls at the wedding are not the best quality and if you have bridesmaids who don't fit traditional sizes, these robes can be uncomfortable. We had a plus size bridesmaid in the bridal party with the robes and every single picture we saw showed her uncomfortably pulling the robe down or adjusting the top. I say skip the robes.

I'm getting them a shirt they can wear with yoga pant or sweats. It also doesn't have anything wedding related or their monogram on it

Sure why not. Do what you want, it's your day. Some people will say the robe shouldn't be part of the gift, but that was included for part of the gift I gave, and to this day, they all still wear them and send me snaps of them lol.

I'm getting baggy flannels for my girls since I basically live in them and it's very representative of me and FH haha. They're not monogrammed or anything, which makes it easier for the girls to actually wear them again after the big day. Plus they can wear leggings/sweats/whatever else with them day-of in the photos so no one feels overexposed.

I'm getting monogrammed robes. I figured they might use those again but not one that says "bridesmaid." They're an oxford cloth soft material that is not as skimpy as the silk kimono and not as heavy as a waffle / terry cloth.

I fully expect the girls to wear whatever leggings, yoga pants etc they want to underneath... would never expect anyone to be baring their legs for my photos.

And if they throw them away after the wedding, hey, no biggie... but my hope is that they like them.

UO: BM robes/other matching outfits are a dumb idea (not to mention a waste since many people throw them away after) and getting ready photos are weird.

@Future_Mrs._Sikes Bridesmaid robes aren't gifts if they have to wear them for photo ops

I have no idea what we're doing but 99% change no robes, yoga pants and shirts is more up our alley.

I am getting my bridesmaids robes as well. I know that we all wear light robes while we do our hair/makeup at home.

I found an etsy seller who makes high quality custom ones. Each girl will have a different color/pattern that suits their personality.

I will also be sure to get the sizes correct.

So for me, I know that this is 100% something my girls will love and use after the wedding.

Thank you for all of your input! I love would rather give them a shirt, but, to get our hair done we all have to wear button ups and I think the monogrammed button ups are so ugly and they are all huge! Any other ideas?

I got a silk robe from the Bride of the wedding I was in last summer and I absolutely love it... I wear it every morning while I get ready! The photos we took in the robes were beautiful and I wore a pair of shorts and a tank top under them so there were no nip slips. LOL

I'm doing button up plaid shirts that are oversized. I'm just putting there first name on the pocket of the shirt and then we all plan on wearing black leggings and whatever shoes that are comfy. I agree with @laurenh2704, if something happens last minute, one of your bm's can go to the rescue.

I got my BMs pajama sets that have a button up top and shorts. They aren't monogrammed or anything and I got them super on sale a couple weeks ago. So they're wearable again if they want to, if not at least they were inexpensive - but knowing them I think they will re-wear them.

I gifted my BMs robes for our Bridal Spa Day back in October. I am also not requiring them to bring them with them for my DW. I DO consider it a gift and they all appreciated it very much. We were stopped numerous times at Glen ivy Hot Springs and were asked about them. I have BMs of all sizes 8-22 (according to David's Bridal dress sizes). I also plan to get them another small gift before we depart to Shanghai. I purchased my robes from MilkRobe on Etsy for $22.50 each. Not silk, but great quality.

There are a ton of options you can go with: the matching PJs, matching tanks and yoga pants, the oversized shirts, robes, whatever.

One thing to remember about all of these items: they are photo props used to enhance your wedding. They DO NOT count as gifts to your bridesmaids. If you are buying it for them to use at your wedding, it's not considered a gift. @Sikes, this applies to you, too.

Also, I did a YouTube review of one of the floral satin robes on AliExpress. If you have any girls who wear a size L or bigger, don't bother. They will look terrible.
