Getting ready outfits—worth it or no?

Katherine, on January 13, 2022 at 2:33 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 2 16
I like the idea and look of us coordinating somehow during the ‘getting ready’ but idk if it’s really worth spending money on robes or PJ’s etc. Like how much time is everyone all together anyway? The wedding is in August so I think flannels and sweatshirts are out. Personally, I hate the feeling of wearing most collared button-up shirts. Any other ideas? Whatever I pick will probably not include “bridesmaid” on it so people can wear them again. Would it be reasonable to just ask all the girls to wear a pink shirt/zip up/tank top w a wide neck of their choosing that they hopefully already own? (Anyone have pics of this?)
The photographer will be there for a decent amount of time so there will be pictures.

Probably a know-your-crowd thing. Do you think your girls will care if you ask them to wear something specific? Most probably wouldn't care. The button ups are good for not messing up hair but zip ups could do the same thing. You could get them something like this since it will be warm.

I got these cami pj sets and robes from Shein. The cami sets are around $8 and the robes are $10. Pretty cheap and they don’t have the “bride” and “bridesmaid” writing on the back.

If they don't already own them, I wouldn't expect them to go out and purchase something for your getting ready photos.

The button and zip ups are great so they don't mess up HAMU. If you are letting them pick a top of their choosing that they already have, a pair of black leggings goes well with pretty much everything.

ETA: I didn't do getting ready photos. They were not something I needed day of, so if you don't want them you can just have your party in whatever they feel comfortable.

Hi there! I have heard this can be very over rated to spend all the money on coordinating everyone! I would just ensure whatever everyone is wearing is super comfy! The benefits to using PJs or a robe is that you have no bra lines, etc hanging out in your pictures 😁 hope this helps!

Wasn’t worth it to me. We all just wore what was comfy for us. My getting ready photos are still
Adorable and some of my faves!

I didn't have a "getting ready" outfit. Until it was time to put my dress on, I wore a baggy t-shirt with a stretch collar (to fit over my head after my hair was done) and yoga pants. The photographer took a few pictures of me in that outfit standing with the dress. I forgot my robe at home. I didn't do the matching robes with the bridesmaids. I told them to just how up at my hotel room in their dresses. My sisters were staying in the same hotel, so they waited a little longer, but my two friends showed up in their dresses.

I bought these matching PJs from Walmart—I think they were about $15 each. I wouldn’t spend a ton of money. But you’re smart not to put anything wedding related on them if you get them—I’ve never work anything personalized ever again!

Just get simple button up pj tops from Target and let them wear leggings or pants of their choice. Whatever you wear should not go over the head, so you don’t undo the expensive hard work of hairstylists and makeup artists. If you get tshirts or tank tops, make sure you don’t mind cutting them down the front. Also robes and pj shorts are very revealing and many women are not comfortable in front of strangers wearing them. Also, outside of Pinterest/Instagram, it’s pretty uncommon to have formal pro photos of your ladies in pjs.

Good point. I would not want to wear just a thin short robe in pictures with strangers around.

I'm just telling my girls to wear shorts/leggings and a neutral colored top (recommending button up or zip up for Hair & Makeup purposes) of their choice. I want them to be comfortable. I also have girls in a very wide range of clothing sizes, so trying to find something that everyone would be comfortable in would be a headache for me that I just don't need. Instead I'm using that money to buy them a nicer personal gift.

I added patches to plain black sweatshirts for my Princess Posse! On the day of, we wore black leggings as well. Hopefully, the outfits made it into the video because we totally forgot to take pictures the day of. Here is one of me while getting ready and some of us chillaxing after the big day Smiley smile

Hmm, it seems to me that pajamas are the best option.

You can ask your friends to wear t-shirts of the same color and order the same pajamas for everyone. It will look very good in photos, plus your friends will have a very sweet memory of this day. When my sister was getting married, she found a site called what to wear with mom jeans and read that jeans and a white shirt would look good. And before the wedding, she had such a photo session; it looked very cool and stylish. So you can experiment.
