Getting out of a contract

Barbara, on August 25, 2009 at 2:51 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

I am having a lot of difficulty with my hotel, does anyone know about getting out of a contract without owing them anything more than the deposit put down?

It should say it in the contract. I know that if I were to back out now I would only loose whatever deposits I have put down.

Not real sure about this one... It probably depends on what your specific contract (that you signed) says about breaking the contract. Look over your copy of the paperwork and see what the fine print says about the cancellation policy.

Agreed with the above. Your contract SHOULD state HOW the contract can be canceled, and the penalties. If it doesn't, it's not a very well written contract! Call the hotel and ask!

For my contracts it states that the deposit/booking fee is held. If I'm able to book another wedding for that weekend I'll release the funds to you.

I don't know what your hotel would say... it shouldn't be hard for them to book something else for your date... a lot of times there's a 120 day clause.... so make sure you get out of it by the 31st if there is.

What kind of difficulties? Is this something to do with the person you are dealing with? can you escalate the issues and get them resolved without having to cancel the contract? Otherwise, the contract should state very specifically what the cancellations are.

I'm a member here because I'm getting married in November 2009. However, I also work at a hotel, so let me know if I can offer any advice. Good luck.

I would call the hotel and tell them whatever problems you're having - most places will try to avoid broken contracts and the bad rap they'll get from not fixing the problem. If that doesn't work, then it should be in your contract.

Thank you for the advice! Katievree- I was having issues with the person I was dealing with. I tried to speak with her boss about it and her boss is even worse. The lack of professionalism and organization is outstanding. I chose my hotel because of the great coordinator they had. He left to a better opportunity and since then everything has gone wrong. From zero communication about my new contact here, to them knowing whether I was having a plated dinner or stations.
