Getting married with braces....

Mrs.ChanelNewNew, on February 4, 2014 at 11:52 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 31

So I'm an adult brace face. My orthodontist won't take them off for the wedding. I don't get much of a choice in this since I'm not paying for them (the navy is). I'm half tempted to put off the wedding till they're off next year. What would you do? Should I just embrace the brace face and hope they can get photoshopped out?

I just got my braces off. I refused to keep them on for my wedding.

And don't count on your photographer photoshopping your braces out of pics. Not likely.

It's a tough choice, but just own it! The braces are part of your look for now and if FH doesn't want to postpone, you should just try to make the best of it!

How much would it be pushing the wedding back? I know I wouldn't want to look at pictures of me with braces for years and years, and I also would want nice straight pretty teeth for the wedding. That's really crappy that your orthodontist can't take them off early, and it's unfortunate you don't have like invisalign. Personally if dates aren't a huge issue I'd postpone but I guess I'm a bit self conscious with my teeth in general and I know I'd regret it if I had braces. I can see what your FH is saying though, he will love you and marry you no matter what your teeth looks like!

Unless you have a specific conversation with your photographer about getting them photoshopped out, I wouldn't count on them being edited out. If your photographer is more than willing to edit them out in all of the pictures, then I would just go ahead with the current date.

If you can't be 100% certain that they'll be edited out, then I would postpone. There's no way I would want my teeth to have braces on in my wedding pictures that I will be looking at for the rest of my life. I even had the clear brackets that you could hardly see and I still wouldn't have wanted those in my wedding pictures either! I'm not sure when your date is now or when you would have to postpone the date to, though, so I don't know how big of a change that would be.

If it were me, I would postpone..If that isn't an option, look into the 'white' braces or whatever they are called. I know people who had them and you couldn't tell they had braces unless you were up close to them. I'm not sure if your ortho could change them or not. How long past your date are you supposed to have them off?

I think that you should just embrace it but that depends on how far you are in your planning with your wedding if you really do not think that you want to just embrace it. I think that it is part of you and that it shouldn't be that big of a deal to you. I had them as an adult and they unfortunately can't just take them off without putting something in place to keep your teeth from shifting.

I would probably just accept that I had braces, and keep them in. No biggie. LOL

    Or...have them taken off early?

I would never cancel or postpone....would lose too much $$...unless EVERY vendor was willing to just postpone to another date.

My date is Nov 14, 2014. They're not coming off till Sep 2015. If I post pone then ill have to elope then have the wedding otherwise we would get stationed separately in 2015. I think that will be one of the things that I look for when shopping around for my photographer.

When I went for my braces consultation, I made sure the orthodontist would take them off for the week of my wedding. There's no way Id have them in my pics

I guess if you don't want to have braces in the wedding then you would just have to postpone your wedding. When I had braces (I was maybe 12 or 13), I already got them later than everyone else I knew so it felt like a right of passage that I desperately wanted to go through...all my photos had big grins of tinsel because I was so proud of them, haha!

But, hey, if you want some shine in your wedding, those braces will do just that!

I'm sorry... but if I ask for my braces to be taken off by such and a such a time, then I expect them to be off by that time. Maybe I just don't understand your entire situation.

I wouldn't want my braces on for my wedding. I just wouldn't... there's nothing WRONG with them, but it's not how many women picture their wedding day. I wouldn't want to look back on those pictures and say, "Ew, look at me in my braces."

If it bothers you, FH needs to understand that. It's not just about him and when is convenient for him to get married.

@rusticbride - because I'm in the navy and its a free program I don't get much of a choice. I got accepted into the program in July and they put them on in September. They have to be on two years. At my last appt I told them I was getting married and the assistant said that the ortho Wong take them off for a wedding. So at my next appt I'm going to beg the ortho lol

Rusticbride, the timeline of braces removal is not based on the patient's schedule, unfortunately. It's based on the physiology of the patient's teeth. Frankly, you can't demand the braces to be taken off unless you're prepared for the consequences, which are likely crooked teeth, longer time in braces afterwards and in Mrs.Chanel's case, possibly refusing to do ortho for the second time since it's a free program.

You could ask for ceramic brackets that are white and have the wires removed on the day of. Alternatively, maybe lingual braces for the lower teeth? Talk to your orthodontist about esthetic options. I would not necessarily postpone my wedding due to braces; it's just one day, it's about your love for Mr.Chanel, etc etc.

I am putting off getting braces because I didn't want to get married with braces in my pictures. I understand where you are coming from.

I wouldn't postpone. Ask your photographer if they will do it for X number of pictures. (All would be too much time for him). And get it in writing! If not, are you getting high res images on a disk? Message me after the wedding and I can try to remove them on a few. Ive never done braces before but I have experience photoshpping portraits. I'd be glad to help out a fellow bride ;-)

I really hope I can get them photoshopped out. I would have put it off but its literally the only window I could have gotten them put on based on how the program works. Or I could have went and spent $3k-$5K on them lol
