Getting married in barn, but don’t want the country theme

Kaitlyn, on September 27, 2019 at 7:59 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 13
Hi all! I’m getting married in a gorgeous newly built barn. While I love the venue itself, I want to make sure it doesn’t look overly “country.” I want minimal rustic decor with mostly elegant. What is some decor I can incorporate to make the theme come across as not country??

We’re doing a moody/romantic theme in our barn venue. Twinkle lights, lots of candles, darkish table linens, lots of greenery.

I suggest adding a shiny element — either gold metallic things or jeweled things. For instance, we’re having candles in gold votives.

We’re using a lot of green foliage so I intend to do the fern press for the table numbers. I think they look more elegant and less rustic with the gold frame.

We’re not doing a lot with flowers but I think flowers could also do a lot to dress up a place.

I agree with others that lighting, candles, metallic finishes, soft fabric draping, greenery and delicate flowers will help, and steer clear of anything that suggests a more country/rustic vibe, like burlap, mason jars, Sunflowers and/or plain baby's breath, and no wood slabs, wine bottles, or boots.

My theme is a rustic elegance. You could make it mostly elegant decor but tie in some rustic elements such as twine, burlap or little accents of wood.

I am also getting married in a barn and trying to avoid the country/rustic thing. I am having a Christmas wedding so I definitely can't offer a lot of idea for the decor because ours is centered around the Christmas theme, but the main thing we are doing is avoiding burlap and wood and not using an insane amount of metal tubs/tins. We are incorporating gold to make things more elegant. Our sweetheart table will be a gold sequined tablecloth. We will have gold glitter mason jars to put flowers in. Lots of greenery. Candles everywhere. I definitely second the PP about adding metalics or something that stands out. Even just adding it as an accent. My best friend is getting married and her colors are navy and blush but she is using gold accents and it totally dresses everything up and makes it look way more elegant.

I think avoiding burlap, mason jars and wood slabs would help minimize the country aspect of it!

Our venue was a big red barn, but we had a more semi formal wedding than traditional "country". We did have antler accents & we were in cowboy boots, but it wasn't your typical country wedding.

I agree with some of the previous posters!

Greenery, gold, moody colors will look great with a barn and won't come off as country. Things I would personally avoid would be too much use of lace (as decor), burlap, and maybe sunflowers.
