George Street Photography issues anyone?

I guess I should add I'm asking simple questions, like for recommendations on where we should do our engagement pics since FH and I don't know the area at all (out of state). I asked if i would have the chance to go through the videographers work before they arrive on my day. Nothing too crazy or too important that needs an answer ASAP. It's still bothering me they're taking so long, and I understand my date it far away but multiple days between emails is a lot.

Could you ask for a different coordinator? I'm sure they have more than one person who handles coordination for weddings. Our coordinator from George Street has been super helpful and answered all of our questions.

@Daniele I'm not sure, I guess I could ask. I don't want to come off as rude or mean, especially since my questions aren't THAT timely and important. It just puts a bad feeling in me that they're taking so long to reply!

@Olivia yeah I agree, I read up on reviews and it seemed amazing plus my friend actually booked the same photographer (not via George street though, this was a few years ago) and my friend loved them! So I'm mostly concerned with the videography aspect of it, hence why I asked them questions about it and haven't heard back!

This is why I absolutely hate and have nothing but contempt for puppy mills like this. The project coordinator is there to make a sale, you don't get to choose or be guaranteed who your photographer will even be. Impersonal and only for those who want whoever with a camera for a cheapish price. This is why you should support your local artist who will provide the photos and experience you want. This person isn't responsive? Go over their head.

They're a contract company (not sure if that's the right term) but if I'm not mistaken, you just get who you get. There's no guarantee that you'll get the photographer you really want. Put "paging photographers" in your title and I'm sure Jay, Rachel, Kathleen, or even Celia can provide some insight.

@La Grosera, that's correct. Photographers are subcontractors. Not a practice I like at all. So one size fits all. And that's not most peoples' expectation of wedding photography, if they really take time to research and think about what resonates with them.

My only issue was that they got my number from something I signed up for (not even sure where). They would not stop calling even after I told them we weren't interested.

You cant reach out to your photographer directly? That would be a deal breaker for me.

A friend of mine used them for videography and it was awful. She asked for a new edit and they did it but it was obviously disappointing when they first saw the video. They guy was weird too and didn't edit out when someone said the wrong name of the bride. I know two people who are using them now though and they are happy with how their engagement pictures turned out

They don't recommend you reach out to your photographer directly, but I have in the past. I know who my photographer is, I picked her and booked her through George Street so I know she's my photographer, that's guaranteed in my

contract. I'm going to email my photographer directly and see what she thinks I should do. Maybe I just cancel my plan with them and go through her directly.

It really sucks to see people say they didn't get to choose and were assigned a photographer. We looked at plenty of portfolios and were able to choose the photographer we wanted.

@danielle I agree! I went through several photographers portfolios, and made the choice myself. I wasn't assigned one, and I'm SUPER picky about photography and I loved the options they offered. But now I'm bummed out they take ages to reply to my emails! When I first booked the turn around time was about a day, but now average response is 3 days of not more.

I got my wedding videographer and he did a pretty good job and the coordinator was on top of her stuff.

Ok.....so.....suppose the assigned photographer gets a chance for their own booking, are they loyal to George Street where they might make $25.00 an hour, or do they take their own booking? There's no way they can guarantee a specific provider, I'd read the fine print on a replacement. Sorry if my opinions of these companies are a bit strong, but ewwww.

@Jay Farrell I doubt the photographers only make 25 an hour through George Street, they would have to make similar to their normal amount, maybe a little less, otherwise why would the photographer contract with George Street? They would only be shorting themselves to sign up with a company that only pays 25 bucks an hour or something ridiculously low.

In my contract I get the photographer I've booked. So yes, according to my contract I'm guaranteed the specific provider. She already knows she's booked for my wedding, I've emailed her in the past. While I appreciate your opinion, I'm mostly asking for peoples experience with the company or what I should do.

They got my contact info from some site (TheKnot, I think) and kept calling. I finally blocked them and reported them to DoNotCall.gov.

They hounded me for a while, but finally gave up and haven't heard from any of them in about 2 months. IMO, I wouldn't have gone with a company like this

@hahnsolo @danielle I'm having the opposite problem! They are being hard to reach! They never hounded me at the beginning at all though
