Generic Wedding Blues....How was yours special?

I was worried about the same thing and i had a pretty simple, traditional wedding. I found a lot of my guests noticed small details in our centerpieces and favor boxes that we did. They also loved our kids activity book. There was a lovely lady on here, who also has an Etsy account, who drew DH and I in our wedding attire. which was the cover of our activity book. The adults loved them and some weren't happy they were for the kids. haha

You can do small details to your centerpieces or favors to give it a little extra something. Maybe a unique guest book for people to sign? You don't need to make it a big deal or spend a lot of money to be original.

We had a blizzard. Rather unforgettable.

Spend money on alcohol and your wedding will be great.

@JenniferandRick the coloring books are also on my diy list/esty list. haha. I love DIY projects and I have quite a few to complete hopefully people will notice them.

@beautyofdreams - I waited till the last minute on a lot of things because i couldn't decide on the 'look' i wanted. Don't do this!!!! Get it done now. My best advice for DIY wedding.

We are having a secondline band its different for me and my family and other oot guest, but pretty traditional for the local guests. We are also having Cajun New Orleans style food (which is like the point above, new to me & my side but traditional for his side). So much of my wedding experience will be new for me. I will probably DIY the bouquets since our venue includes centerpieces and all the decor. But that was enough for me just to have him and my family there.

It will be awesome because it will be *your* family and *your* friends celebrating *your* marriage. I promise.

I had nothing really unique at my wedding. I did not have a photo booth, fancy up lights, live painting. I focused on the three things you are focusing on food, drinks, and entertainment. During the wedding process people have said that having a live band is better than having a DJ, but I beg to differ. We had great and lots of food, unlimited drinks, and a great DJ and from all the feedback I've gotten the wedding was great!!! Focus on making have a good and memorable experience and not really impressing them. I think you are on the right track, so stick to those 3 things.

Key to a good wedding: Love, family, friends, food, music, and an open bar. Anything else is irrelevant.

It might sound lame but it's true: It will already be unique and special because it is YOUR wedding!

At first I also had to give up on some bizarre ideas like renting festival games, or making our guests solve puzzles (don't ask), and I was a bit sad.

But now that the date is close, seeing things come together, hearing friends say how they look forward to see you on your big day... I don't know how the day will turn out, but I'm sure all the experiences and memories will be about YOU, and that's unique and special enough .

Heck even getting stressed out during planning is part of it too!

@JenniferandRick I don't want to wait until the last minute but I feel like if I start now its still to early. My wedding is August 2016. When do you think I should start DIY projects?

@FFW I love the second line idea. I have a friend getting married next year in New Orleans and she is having a second line. I think its very exciting and unique for your guests!

@Kiri I know friends and family will be excited either way. I was a bit bummed about giving up on my "unique and special" ideas but apparently I'm not the only one that has gone through these feelings. Its nice to hear that regardless it will still be special!

I hope I don't offend anybody by this because I'm really not aiming to.

But I had similar worries. That my centerpieces weren't going to be Pinterest worthy. My look not magazine worthy. In reality, 90% of the time, all weddings are composed of other people's ideas. While they can be a unique spin or blend when it comes to decor, colors, etc. In the end, they're all a regurgitation of similar ideas over and over.

I'm only saying this so you don't freak yourself out. Also, people don't look at the tiny tiny details like we think they do. Don't sweat it.

I've been feeling like this too because everything I want to do is so popular right now I'm starting to regret it. The thing is I can't picture doing anything else for our wedding. It perfectly fits who we are individually and as a couple so I'm trying to just move forward and not worry about how our wedding will be perceived by others (in terms of decor). Luckily the song I picked to walk down the aisle to and our first dance song are not popular so I think they will be pretty unique to us. Also FH plans on using a creeper (he's a diesel mechanic) to kind of roll under my dress to take off the garter and pull out a wrench and things like that to make it fun and tie in with his profession.
