Garter Toss?

LittlemissP, on March 13, 2017 at 10:31 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 31

Does anyone still do this? I haven't been to many weddings and completely forgot about it until my mother told me she wanted to buy my garter... my FH and I are kind of miffed about how to do it appropriately. We decided to search YouTube for garter removals that other couples have done to get an idea of how it's done but it seems that all the videos we watched are super sexual, theatric, and kind of trashy.. and I just can't get frisky in front of my grandparents like that! Lol any advice or suggestions? Do people still do this? Is there a way to do this without it being promiscuous?

I'm not sure I will be much help but we are not doing it. I agree with you it tends to seem super sexual or just not our style. So we are not. I have been to some that have but recently less and less are doing it.

If you don't want to do it, don't. We didn't.

I do not care for the garter toss at all. I think it is often very tasteless and tacky, as you said. The only type of toss that I have really cared for out of all the weddings that I have been to was a teddy bear toss for the kids in attendance. The couple had two teddy bears, one bride and one groom and tossed them to the kids. It gave a moment for the kids to shine.

Nope. I've never seen it done, and we've been to a couple dozen weddings.

My parents have been happily married almost 40 years, and they didn't toss anything, either.

My husband and I didn't do one but replaced it with a butioneere toss for all the single guys. (Same thing as bouquet toss). Was very fun and lighthearted. However you can also just take the garter toss out and not replace it with anything! No one will miss it!

We are also not doing the garter toss or the bouquet toss. I dated my FH for 6 years and always loathed having to stand up there. We also find the garter toss a bit trashy, but it completely depends on your level of comfort. I have also noticed that it is being done less and less.

We're doing both. I think it's about knowing your crowd. Most of our friends will not be married and many people in the bridal party are excited about it.

We are skipping bouquet and garter toss. I think the whole garter scene can get a little vulgar - I don't want FH fishing up my dress in public!

The only wedding where I saw a garter toss was a pastor and his wife, which is kind of bizarre. We are skipping for sure.
