He can take the garter off of me any way he chooses in private later that night. Not in front of our family and friends.

You can do bouquet toss without it! My brother and sis-in-law just did!

I personally would not want to have my FH (then H) digging under my dress in front of 275 people including our parents, grandparents, and elderly family members. it's just awkward af to me! but we are doing a garter toss anyways with the guys behind my FH while I'm tossing a bouquet to the ladies behind me! simple and cool way to modify the out-of-date tradition in our eyes.

No garter toss for us! My fiancé thinks the whole thing is weird and after looking up the purpose, I just can’t bring myself to want to. It started because people wanted “proof” of consummation so people would come into the room with the bride and groom and try to get pieces of their undergarments for good luck. So the groom started tossing the garter so they wouldn’t come into the room. That’s summarized, but yeah. Plus I don’t want everyone staring as my groom goes under my dress and I especially don’t want everyone thinking about our sex life.

Hi Anna-May! I completely agree! You can absolutely choose to do a bouquet toss and forego the garter toss! Smiley flower
