Games at reception?

Makaelyn, on October 21, 2020 at 3:06 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 7
Hello! I would like to incorporate some games into my reception for entertainment. My fiancé and I are having our wedding ceremony and reception at our church. We canning have alcohol or dancing, but would still like to make the experience worth while for our guests. I was thinking about doing some games. Games would possibly include the shoe game, bride or groom games, a speech bingo, and then get to know the table games. These are some ideas. Has anyone done games at their wedding or planning to? Does this seem odd, unnecessary, or more like a bridal party or rehearsal dinner idea? Ideas and comments are welcome Smiley smile

You could have corn hole boards, horseshoes, a photo booth. Games are usually for the events before the wedding, but if you can't have dancing then they're perfect for wedding entertainment! You could also see if you can find someone to paint/draw portraits of your guests! That's fun, but they also get to take home a memento to remember the day!

I agree with the previous comment, especially the artist suggestion! You could also have some board/card games available, or do a trivia game (with both questions about the bride/groom, and also wedding trivia that isn't necessarily specific to one couple, and/or wedding movie trivia), where the winner at each table takes home a prize. I do suggest doing a mix of events where people have to pay attention (such as trivia, the shoe game, etc) and also events where people can mingle and play games on their own (cornhole, artist, photo booth, etc).

We had a trivia game at our wedding. All of the questions were about my husband and I. It was fun to see how well all of our friends and family know us.

Those are usually done at showers. I wouldn't think they were odd, just not typical. But do what works for you.

Lawn games are always fun as a guest.

We are using scrabble as our centerpieces. We figured they could play while they're eating and it'll break the ice for folks who don't know each other.

I'm right there with you - we're doing yard games during the cocktail hour (between ceremony and reception) and I'm considering other games for after dinner, like maybe a bar-style trivia game led by the DJ or just trivia questions printed for guests. It seems kinda corny but people will need something to do! Not sure the artist idea is in our budget, but it is cool too.
