Future military spouse, hold wedding at new duty station or in hometown?

Calie, on February 12, 2020 at 4:39 PM Posted in Planning 0 5

Hey, y'all!

My fiancé is Navy, and we will be receiving a new duty station within the next six months. Any opinions on having our wedding at our new location vs having it in one of our hometowns? Part of me would rather have the wedding near my hometown of Jacksonville, FL, but worry about planning remotely while living in another location. However, if we have the wedding near our new home, both families would have to travel and it wouldn't seem unfair to either side. Anyone been through this?

You can get a lot done before he is restationed, then a lot of the planning from afar wouldn't be an issue. Does he have any idea where the new station will be? Do you think family & friends would be able to travel to another state?

I would have it in your hometown. It’s harder to plan a wedding from out of state but it’s definitely doable and I think it’s worth it.

I would prefer a hometown wedding over a wedding somewhere I barely knew anything about. You can easily start planning now, and if you still have family or friends living in your hometown, they can help you with remote planning.

I would prefer home town, but do whatever is best for you and your FH.

We’re really hoping to be stationed in Washington state, and that would be a beautiful place to have the wedding. And family and friends could travel, it would just be very far for my side and less far for his.
