Furniture rental

Selina, on July 29, 2020 at 11:32 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

Hi everyone! I am looking for some guidance on renting all furniture for an outdoor venue. Do people always rent all items from one company or is it okay to split it up? I have one company whose look I love and they offer the clear top tents (&dollarSmiley winking so I'm trying to balance the difference with spending less on chairs...I would save about $250 by going with someone else. Also, do you have to get separate chairs for ceremony and reception? I will expect 150 people and I was hopeful that I could just get family members to move chairs after the ceremony but I'm wondering if there is an etiquette on that. Thank you!!

We rented furniture from two different places! I think it’s fine to hire staff to move chairs but I really wouldn’t have family do it.

I think it’s ok to go with separate companies for rentals. It would be better to get separate chairs but if you’re tight on budget then I guess one is fine but ideally separate chairs would be easier

Be sure you take into account delivery and/or set up charges for both vendors when you're comparing prices overall. If there is one company you'd rather work with exclusively, you could also tell them that you'd like to work only with them and ask if they would consider price matching on the lesser-priced items from a competitor. Also, realize with each vendor, you're going to have to manage logistical issues (delivery & pick-up dates/times, etc.), unless you'll have a DOC who will take care of all that for you. So even if there is a price difference, it might seem like a luxury worth paying a little more for to only have to deal with one vendor instead of two. Good luck!

PS -- I agree with others that I would pay to have someone else move the chairs or order two sets rather than ask family to do it.

We used one company, but that's also because our venue had a rule in the contract that all furniture rentals had to be from the same company. We used the same chairs for the ceremony and the reception, but the venue staff took care of moving them during cocktail hour. Can you hire venue or event staff to move the chairs for you?

    So this.

The delivery/pick up fees can be ridiculous. A charge for a delivery within a two-hour window. A charge for the company to confirm delivery the day of. A charge for after 5 pm pick-up. We only needed chairs & tables for 17 people total... price was $500 + another $500 in fees! Our venue saved the day providing tables & chairs. 👏
