I really wanted an arch like the one pictured below. Our florist told me her husband was going to build one for us because she didn't have any like this. Instead without telling us, she purchased one online along with a bunch of different types and colors of linens. Mind you we only would need white linens. She wants to charge us the entire cost of the arch and linens. It was approximately $500 for the arch. Not sure how much she spent on all of the linens she purchased, but told me she was going to charge us $800 for the arch and linens. She already gave us a quote for the rest of the decor and $800 would take us over budget. She claims we will be the only ones to ever use it as she does mostly rustic style weddings. I feel we shouldn't be responsible to pay for the entire cost of all of the linens and arch because she purchased it without asking and there is no reason she can't reuse it for other weddings. I am so mad because this isn't the first time she has misled us. She told us signs were included in the cost she quoted us, but she failed to mention that the signs she was talking about were chalkboards and we specifically told her we didn't want chalkboard signs. Do you think we should be responsible for the entire $800?

I would stand your ground. Don't pay an additional$800.
That's way over inflated price wise. She did not invest $1k for one wedding, I can assure you of that.

Tell her to return it, you don't want to rent it, and you don't want to purchase it. She has marked it up for a profit, that's wrong, without you flat out requesting that she buy it for your wedding.
Firmly decline paying that amount. Then she will return it.

Definitely not and without a contract you owe her nothing. Honestly I would look for someone else if she struggles with communication

    I'd drop her immediately.

SO many red flags. Not having a contract, buying stuff without your asking, trying to charge you for stuff you didn't ask for...

That makes no sense. First off, if she were renting it, she wouldn't have it now when your wedding is not within the next couple of days. Second, you said, "She claims we will be the only ones to ever use it as she does mostly rustic style weddings." If it were a rental, then how could anyone ever use it again?

Oh, and if you still want something like that, it's not actually an arch. (An arch would have two legs, and this has four.) It's a chuppah (commonly used at Jewish weddings). If you know the name of it, you may be able to find one for rent in your area for less.

She bought one and wants to rent it to us for $800 because she claims she spent $1,000 on it.

Yeah, she shouldn't be charging almost as much for a rental as she paid for something she gets to keep. Even if she can't use it for another wedding, she could sell it to someone else for more than $200.
