Fun toss alternatives

Michelle, on October 13, 2021 at 2:41 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9
For those not tossing the bouquet or garter, are you tossing something in its place? I was reading about one couple where the dj called all animal lovers onto the dance floor and they tossed stuffed animals for the next to adopt, which they said was a hit. Another had all guests up to catch the bouquet for good luck, not predicting the next to marry and again was said to be a hit and only took a couple minutes in between songs. What ideas, if any, are you thinking about?

We're skipping the tosses and not planning on replacing them with anything. The stuffed animal idea is a cute one though! I've also read about another fun idea where people toss a loosely tied bouquet, and once they throw it, it separates into a few mini bouquets, so multiple people can catch them.

Aww the stuffed animal for next to adopt is so cute! We aren’t doing the tosses, and aren’t replacing them either. FH and I both find the garter toss super cringe worthy, and I’ve always thought the bouquet toss was cheesy 🤷🏼‍♀️

We're cutting both and not replacing them. Just using that time for more dancing!

We're planning to cut them altogether. I don't think I've ever seen them in real life. That said, I know some couples do an anniversary dance (AKA longest married dance) and give the bride's bouquet to the winners, which I think is great as long as you have the right type of crowd.

So.. me and my boyfriend at the time (FH now) went to a work friends’ wedding. Most of the single girls were from work, we’re all performers, but most of us don’t really like the spotlight. My friend really wanted to do the bouquet toss so we all got together pretty half-heartedly to do it. When she threw it we all literally backed away from it and it splatted on the floor, petals all ruined and us all looking down at it as if it was poisonous or something 🤣 all our OH’s found it hilarious.. needless to say I won’t be doing it and am not planning on replacing it with anything.

Also planning on skipping the toss! I am also in the camp of finding the garter toss cringey 😅😅 But I love the stuffy idea, how cute!

I skipped them. I did an anniversary dance instead, where we had all married couples out on the dance floor and the last couple standing (which we knew would be my husband's grandparents) got the bouquet and shared some wisdom they've learned from being married so long. It was a really sweet moment that we loved from our wedding and a great way to honor his grandparents (mine all passed away years ago, and his grandparents really embraced me as a member of the family).

The majority of our guests were either married or in a committed relationship. We wanted everyone to participate so when it came time to do the toss we asked all women/men (regardless of marital status) to come up to the dance floor. Whoever caught the bouquet won scratch tickets- it was a hit!
