Fun alternatives to a photo booth

We really want to do a photo booth at our wedding, but we're having a hard time finding one that's a reasonable price, once all the fees are added in. Has anyone come up with a creative alternative to photo booths that worked well? We'd love suggestions!

Yes, MoreMoore and Margot! Open air photo booths are all the rage and they are very reasonable. We got a photo backdrop from Amazon.com for under $100, and will buy fabric bolts from cvlinens.com and between orientaltrading.com and post halloween, we've got some great stuff. We'll set two tall lamps - one on either side of the backdrop, set up a table from our venue with ivory table cloth to place the props such as boas, masks, silly hats, some old wigs and cardboard props (both sites carry them cheaply). I think the whole thing will be about $250-300 including polaroid. Better than the cost of $700+ which most booths charge. We'll have a digital camera and a polaroid and everyone will take shots of each other. Should be fun - kind of a self-service, do your own thing. We'll also add a disco ball, you know the kind that spins and adds colors. Again, from Amazon - it's a two light kit for about $20. We got all of this for my sister's wedding last year and we are going to do the same in 2019 - maybe a more romantic type of fabric and soft colored lighting, but you get the idea of the fun. See link for disco ball: https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_1?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=disco+ball+light

My venue has a replica of a 18th century Americana Village- school house, chapel, general store and houses. I will have some props set up and hire a roaming photographer (possibly a student) to take "old-timey" black and white photos on the house porch and in front of the general store. Similar to the "Saloon pics" at a fair. This will be during our cocktail picnic while we are getting our photos done.

We are doing a small selfie station with a Polaroid camera. They can leave or take their pics.

I found a way to DIY it on Pinterest that I'm considering. Make a background and some props, set up an iPad with a photo booth app hooked up to a printer with photo paper. If you have an iPad the other stuff will come to like $100 bucks or so

I'm doing something similar to Norma. I'm having a small photo printer with a selfie station.

I would just skip it, I've been to a few weddings where the photo booth was hardly used so for the money it costs and the effort to put together your own DIY photo booth I just wouldn't go for it. If you're dead set on something fun or similar, we are getting custom cornhole made with our last name to put outside with a cigar bar. That will give people something to do who isn't interested in dancing.

Hello, I found a reasonable price for a photo booth, you just have to put it together yourself, it's called Booth By Mail. It cost $289 it gets delivered to your house 1-2 days before your event you set it up also comes with props

I've seen this AWESOME idea to write guests names and clothespin the names to a string and game them replace their names with a Polaroid! such an awesome idea!

I considered DIY, but since we're traveling for the wedding, it'll be difficult for us to bring everything we need with us. The groupon idea was really helpful! I found a vendor in the area on groupon and the price is even lower than we budgeted for- that's a big win!
