Full Dinner or Small Plates?

Erin, on July 24, 2019 at 11:38 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 15

Hey guys! My wedding will be during the evening because it is on a Friday and I want to give everyone enough time to travel/get ready. Our ceremony will be at 7:00 (won't be dark until around 8:45), and the reception will start around 7:30-7:45. Do I need to serve enough for a full dinner or can I get by with just small plates?

We are planning on a taco/nachos bar, so just trying to see what size plates/how much food to purchase. Thanks!

I feel like I'd go with the full dinner butttt it also sounds like having a taco bar could be really filling anyway as a small plate

Full dinner. If people are coming from work they won’t have time to eat before getting to your wedding.

Definitely full dinner! With an evening wedding where people may be getting ready immediately after work and coming, they'll expect a real meal.

Full dinner, people likely won't have a lot of time to eat beforehand if they go to work.
I wanted a small plate selection and everyone kept telling me that guests hate it so now I'm doing buffet

I agree definitely a full dinner. If people work Friday or even have to get ready for an evening wedding they likely haven’t had dinner before coming.

I agree with everyone else, definitely a full dinner. Like you said, people will likely be leaving work to travel and get ready, when do you expect them to eat dinner if you’re not providing it? If you only served app sized portions, I would probably leave early to go get a real meal.

You are having the wedding around dinner time. If I were a guest, I would likely expect a full dinner.

If I were going to a wedding that started at 7:00, I would expect a full dinner. That is right at dinner time.

Definitely full dinner, especially because people probably won't have time to eat beforehand because it's on a Friday.

Full dinner. Your wedding is during dinner time. So by the time people rush home from work for your Friday evening wedding, get ready, and get to the venue, they will be starving.

If it's a taco bar, I assume it's a serve yourself type? If you did small plates people would just come up multiple times to get more food. I definitely would do full plates

I think for an evening wedding is sort of expected a full plate. Nacho/taco bar sounds delicious as well but maybe is a good idea to add this to the cocktail hour so guest have a snack before dinner.

Full dinner. For a local, weekday wedding, I’m coming from work. It means I run home, get ready, and run to the wedding, without stopping to eat at all. People will be hungry !
