My fiance's younger sister (she's 21) texted him and told him that she doesn't plan on coming to the wedding unless she is asked to me a bridesmaid. I haven't even chose my bridesmaids yet! My fiance's younger sister (she's 21) texted him and told him that she doesn't plan on coming to the wedding unless she is asked to me a bridesmaid. I haven't even chose my bridesmaids yet! But she got it in her head that I wasn't going to include her and now she's freaking out. We are not super close (about 5 years age difference) but have always gotten along pretty well. I had not ruled out having her in the wedding, but after this behavior... that's the last thing I want to be surrounded with on my wedding day. I am so worried that it will cause damage to our relationship and my relationship with his family if I don't include her. My future mother in law already chimed in and asked what it would hurt to add one more bridesmaid. My fiance has never been terribly close to his sister and he doesn't really want her in the wedding due to her behavior either. What would you do?

It sounds like she would be dramatic throughout the entire wedding process, which isn't what you want from a bridesmaid. I asked my fiance's 4 sisters to be in my bridal party, but they are all nice and super easy to deal with. I wouldn't ask your FSIL.

I always assumed it was etiquette to include the siblings in the bridal party so my fiance and I did that. I even included his half sisters who are over 10 years younger than me as junior bridesmaids. I don't personally know anyone that hasn't included all the siblings in the bridal party so excuse my ignorance if this isn't a common thing that everyone does. But I do recommend including your soon to be sister in law. I got super close with my fiance's sister that's a few years older than us from her being a bridesmaid, and I'm really glad that I did

Yes it is ridiculous! Everyone wants to make it about them, as most couples come to find out.

I thought it was bad when my mother wanted to turn everything into my sisters 22nd bday party, but his family topped it LOL. Thanks for the advice on the intentions/prayers, we will heed that.

Ugh. Hang in there, you're almost there! Happy July wedding. Smiley smile

(Hearing about wedding drama makes me happy we kept the details or our DW and reception secret. No wedding party either. Sooo much less drama. Friends/family simply had to show up and enjoy themselves.)

That’s annoying, especially since you and FH arent even close to her! I only asked one out of two of my FSILs to be a bridesmaid, because I am very close with one and the other has disliked me since I started dating FH. And now her and FMIL are butthurt because I didn’t ask her. FH hated her when I met him because of a whole huge issue she had with their family, and still isn’t close to her. I would never include someone in our wedding who is negative towards us or who we’re not close to! Bridal party is for our nearest and dearest. If someone is offended and doesn’t want to come to the wedding, so be it! I would be so uncomfortable if I knew the only reason I was in someone’s BP is because I cried about it until they asked me, instead of them actually wanting me there. Choose who you want, when the time comes.

Dont include her. Its you and you FHs day, not hers, not his mamas, if they dont show over that they didnt want to be there in the first place.

Thank you for your advice. My three brothers aren't going to be groomsmen in our wedding either (fiance would rather include his closest friends and his own brother), so it seems silly that I would be obligated to include FH's sister. But that's nice that you were able to include all of your current and future siblings!

Thanks for your advice! I think that what I will do is create a special role for her so that she still feels included, but just not as a bridesmaid. I don't want her to not come, just don't want to risk ruining my wedding day with her drama.

Thank you for this advice! She lives in a different state, so unfortunately I can't have her over to talk to her about this in person. I wish that I could, because I feel like doing all this communicating through phone and text leads to further misunderstandings and hurt feelings.

That's comforting to hear that you didn't have your FSILs in your wedding and it sounds like you still have a good relationship with them!

Yeah it was definitely not sarcastic or joking. She was very serious and mean. Even insinuated that the reason I haven't asked her is because I am jealous of her looks. I seriously wish this was a joke lol.
