Frustration about being engaged to a military guy

Sweetbella, on May 11, 2010 at 2:11 PM Posted in Planning 0 18

I may have to postpone the wedding because Navy is so overcrowded. That he has to switch jobs to stay in Navy and that mean school. I can't even take premartial counseling with him and have to plan the wedding without him. How can military wives or fiances handle this? It is so hard, I am sick of the fact that military is so bad about timing. I should just elope!

For planning the wedding I research everything, take pics and send him lots of emails with links and pictures so he can see and offer his input. Its actually been a huge help.

We aren't doing pre-marital classes. Our pastor agreed to do everything in one session the day before the wedding. You can also do it over the phone if time permits.

Its not easy but hang in there! *hugs*

I completely know what you mean, it's even harder for FH and I because we're both in the military and always going somewhere. Towards the beginning we had to change the date 3 times and we've been engaged for a year now with the wedding 18 days away. It's possible, but very very frustrating for sure!!

Well...as a active duty military Sailor myself...I can just tell you to have patience and be flexible. If you haven't learned yet..you will...the needs of the Navy come first (according to the Navy). I know its frustrating..my FH is active duty too and we are geographically separated but its a part of this life. I would just ask you to try to understand and most importantly keep supporting your FH during this stressful time for you both. Changing jobs because you are being forced to is also stressful and he will have to adjust to a new career field. Have you considered the JOP until there is a more stable time to plan a wedding? I've lived this life for almost 20 years not as a spouse or fiance but as a mother and understand the sacrifice..and I'm here if you need to vent some more.

Thanks Lilly, I just hope I don't have to postpone for his school and I dunno where he will transfer to. Pictures might be difficult because he leave for deployment this month :-( How did you do it? I realized that I have to accept many difficulties to be a wife to Navy and most people who are not in military or married to one don't see how hard it is that they hate military ugh. I live in Seattle where people hate military. So I ha

Thanks but its worth it!!! It always angers me beyond belief when I hear of people who are unappreciative of the everyday sacrifices of the troops serving in the military!!!! You may not agree with everything we are charged to do but we are protecting and defending the freedoms (sometimes with our lives) we are able to enjoy so much!! Sorry, I'm off my soapbox....God bless the troops!!

I'm sorry, I know it's so frustrating. I will have to do most of the planning in FH's absense. When will you know for sure if you have to reschedule?
