Frustrating Vendor RANT

Monica, on March 15, 2021 at 3:22 PM Posted in Planning 0 9
This is going to be kind of long.

First of all let me start by saying I do NOT miss wedding planning. We got covid cancelled twice so October 2, 2021 is our 3rd and final date. Our original date was April 4th 2020, we had to cancel 2 weeks before our date because thats when quarantine happened. After we found a new date, luckily I kept almost all my vendors (none of them would refund my deposit even if I fully cancelled). All vendors moved to the new date except for 1 for my backdrop.

I had reached out to a few people and the first one to respond to me was a complete mess!! I swear I just want a simple backdrop design in Ivory for our sweatheart table and to add flower garlands at the top of the backdrop.

I sent 2 pictures. One shows the backdrop design. The 2nd picture showed a backdrop with flowers on top (which is an example of how I want the flowers on the backdrop). Also I will provide the flower garlands, I just need the vendor to attach them to their backdrop).

Let me tell you everything that went wrong with the conversation:

  1. She told me the price for the 2nd picture with the flowers the backdrop + chandelier and sweet table setup (candies not included). I said I only need a quote for backdrop only, no setup or chandelier needed.
  2. She gave me the price for the 1st picture backdrop and sweets table setup (candies not included). I proceeded to correct her again and said this is for a SWEETHEART table, not a candy table. I want backdrop only (metal frame with curtains/fabric from picture 1 and to attach flowers to the top, as seen in picture 2).
  3. She said oh sorry I gave u a quote for the picture. So a single panel backdrop would be around $120 and she sent me a picture. I said to myself hm single panel? My picture I sent is simple but has draping, is that considered single panel. I asked her so for $120 will it be draped like the picture I sent? She said no, it will look like the example I showed you. 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️ the example she showed me looks NOTHING like what Im asking for. Instead of giving me prices for things IM NOT asking for, why dont you give me the price of the picture.
  4. She says the drapery in the picture I sent her has 2rods and will cost $150. FINALLY I get an actual quote. I said so $150 for draped backdrop does that price include attaching the flowers also?? No. Thats for backdrop panels only. Okay so how much extra to attach my flower garlands that I will provide? She says “I cant give you a quote for the flowers. I dont know how you want them or how you want them setup. They take a long time to make, it will take me 2 weeks to make flower garlands. 🤦🏽‍♀️😩😩🤦🏽‍♀️ bruhh. I WILL PROVIDE THE GARLANDS FOR YOU. I told her I am providing the garlands. I have MANY garlands specifically for the backdrop how much will it cost just for you to attach them?
  5. At this point I was done with her. I gave her one last chance. I said just to clarify: I want a quote for backdrop in Ivory with draping as seen in picture 1, and to attach flower garlands that will be provided to you as seen in picture 2. She responded with you will need to meet with me in person and bring your garlands so I can see them to give you a price. She lives 30minutes away, so I have to drive 30minutes for u to tell me how much to throw MY garlands on ur backdrop. No thank you. AND she mentioned nothing about delivery charges.

I found a completely different vendor who will come delivery, set up & attach my flowers for $180 AND they will set up day before the wedding. YES PLEASEE. This is way cheaper than my original vendor from last year. Im very happy after having that very frustrating conversation.

Oh, I loved when vendors and venues CLEARLY didn't read what you wrote. BIG FAN.

One venue took in all the information from the inquiry form, and ignored *every last bit of it* except for the email and name. They ignored preferred dates, preferred day of the week, YEAR, etc. *Repeatedly.* "No, for this year, on a Saturday." "So, a Sunday, then, next year?" Me: *SCREAMING* Then, they PEARL CLUTCHED over the idea of the sword fight (by trained and licensed professionals). ...I would like to point out that this venue was NOT in NYC, and the NYC venues didn't even blink.

A florist I reached out to not only completely ignored my preferred budget, they were downright RUDE about it, and basically told me I wasn't worth their time. (Poor choice of words, I do believe my ILs no longer frequent that florist shop, as it is within BLOCKS of them.)

    So.

    I totally feel you.

It's ridiculous how many people have such poor business communication skills.

OH MY GOSH! I had so many problems trying to communicate with vendors! I work night shift so I am only available in the afternoon on certain days. I am very specific on the range of hours and why I am unavailable! Any vendor that tried to arrange times to talk outside of those hours I did not consider and told them so. If they can’t read or respect a very simple request I can’t trust them with my time, money, or wedding.

Yes. I thought $150 is a great price but NOT going to be worth it if she sets up and its completely NOT what I asked for. I just imagine walking into the reception after the ceremony and seeing a sweets/candy table set up (candies not included of course) where the SWEETHEART table is supposed to be 😩 and the backdrop looking plain straight down like the curtains in my living room with no draping. Lol. I might cry & then laugh.

I didn’t think of that! I just might. As a vendor especially for weddings I feel like you have to be able to look at a picture and create a vision in your head of what the customer is asking for. Like oh you want to change this & add that? Ok sure we can do that. 🤦🏽‍♀️ Not this vendor giving me everything under the sun that I didn’t ask for

Yelp and GoogleMaps have reviews similar that are not going to be removed by being contested
