Frontier Airlines

Novbride04, on July 28, 2017 at 10:59 AM Posted in Planning 0 41

Happy friday all,

Have any of you ever flight with frontier Airlines? I see they have some cheap prices. We are traveling in the states so it would be like a 4hour flight. I haven't booked yet, I wanted to get some reviews from any first-hand experience.

Thank you!

I have flown with Frontier and they're fine. It's just small seating space. I've never flown anything but coach so I don't mind.

I mean, they get you from one place to another, but the seats are super cramped, and they charge you for everything. They charge for checked bags, carry on bags, snacks on board, everything. I have nothing against budget airlines, I think southwest and JetBlue are great, but frontier isn't comparable to them.

ETA: just looked into why it's so fucking cramped on those flights. Frontier crams like 40ish extra people onto an A321 compared to American, Delta, or United.

They're the bottom of the barrel for a reason. If you're good with getting the absolute bare minimum for everything, and paying extra for things that are standard on American or the other bigger airlines, then it's fine. Just don't go into the flight with any expectations except they're going to get you where you're going safely. Anything else is a luxury on Frontier lol

Well if the only problem is the seating space is not really an issue since my FH and I are petite. I honestly don't want to spend a lot of money in flight tickets cause I would rather spend it in the actual vacation.

@falling what do you mean they charge for checked bags. That means they have an extra fee besides the one you pay online? Do they charge for a regular size purse?

Went through Frontier to a flight from Chicago to Punta Cana- they charge you extra for any drinks (including water) and there is little leg space. I'm short so I don't usually care about leg space but it was cramped. Probably would never fly with them unless it was super cheap.

If you paid online for your checked bags, that's the only fee there. I think anything that fits under the seat in front of you, which is smaller than a normal airline seat, is free. Anything that needs to go in the overhead, they charge for.

75% of my job is coordinating travel for trainers to go around the country. There are two airlines that I will not put my trainers on unless it is an act of absolute desperation: Frontier and Spirit.

Both airlines appear cheap, but it's because you have to pay for literally everything, including carry-on bags. They will not charge you for personal items, but it has to go under the seat.

Also, I don't think I have had a person fly on Frontier and NOT have a delay due to plane issues.

Like I said, they are more a desperation, only reasonable flight option available booking for me.

I used to fly Frontier pretty regularly - they were no-frills, but not bad. Things have gone waaaay downhill in the past few years. As PPs mentioned, they charge extra for absolutely everything. Last December, they cancelled my return flight for a weekend trip, and couldn't get me on another flight for A WEEK. I ended up having to buy a seat on Delta just to get home. I'll never fly them again.

For a short flight, I think they are fine. I flew them to Mexico last year and it was uncomfortable, but only for a little over 2 hours. Anything more than that and I think you need a different airline. We were slightly delayed on the way home, which was fine.

My cousin flies frontier to come home. He never seems to complain, I'm sure it could be nicer but for the price he doesn't ever say anything.

All US based airlines are terrible. I try and fly something based in Europe or the UK.

FWIW: My FIL is a pilot. He has told me tons of horror stories about both Frontier and Spirit skipping safety steps and fudging numbers to meet FAA requirements. I would never, under any circumstances, fly either airline.

I would gladly pay extra to fly on any other airline that is not Frontier. Like other people have said they charge for EVERYTHING. I am surprised that the bathroom usage is free honestly. Last time FH flew with them he got on his flight here in Seattle and when we went to get on his connecting flight in Salt Lake they told him that they didn't have a seat for him. Needless to say that was the last straw for him and now he only flies with Alaska or Delta going to see family.

It's about what you value. They are a no frills airline so if I pay $60 round trip for a flight. I don't have a great expectation or wouldn't compare them to a leading airline. The seats are smaller. The seat doesn't lay back, you pay for all additional frills, and the seat tray is tiny if you have any intent on using it. You can only bring a personal item which is a purse, duffle bag, backpack or overnight bag for free. You pay for carryon and checked luggage and the price is higher if you don't pay for it when you originally book your ticket. You even pay if you select your seat. Spirit call it a "bare fare", which isx exactly what it is. You are getting the bare minimum and paying for upgrades. I would say it needs to be at least $50 less roundtrip for me, including the additional fees, to choose them over another airline. Their change/cancellation fee is usually more expensive than the plane ticket.

Frontier is good for the prices. You pay for what you get. Never had any problems with them though.

I've flown on Frontier. The flights are cheap and the flight locations are from/to smaller airports. The smaller airport locations were an hour drive from my home and destination, but that didn't bother us. The plane and seating are small. We went for a long weekend, so we bought only carry-on. I can't remember if they charged for that. Many airlines are changing their policies to charge for carry-on because they realize that many are skipping the baggage fees.

They do put parties together, so if got both tickets in one booking you can save money by not picking seats and when you check in they're automatically give you two seats together. Since there are two of you one has to be in the middle anyways. I agree that the small tray table is my biggest complaint. I always work out the cost difference (adding bags) to other airlines and if I still save lots then we'll do it. Just buy food and drink ahead of time to take on the plane with you (which I usually do no matter the airline). If it's less than $100 I'll talk FH into southwest, but if it's a savings greater then $100 we'll do Frontier.
