Hi!! So the venue that I have literally been dreaming about has the date I wanted booked along with every Saturday for that month (February) and the next 4 months after that.. just my luck. They told me they Friday before my original date is open but I’m not sure if a Friday wedding will be to much...
Hi!! So the venue that I have literally been dreaming about has the date I wanted booked along with every Saturday for that month (February) and the next 4 months after that.. just my luck. They told me they Friday before my original date is open but I’m not sure if a Friday wedding will be to much of an inconvenience for my guest. What is everyone’s opinion? My only other option is to wait an additional year (2022) which I truly don’t want.
Thank you!!

I've never been to a Friday wedding but I think I would like it. An excuse to take off work and I still have my whole weekend! Your out-of-country guests are most likely taking off work anyway and a day one way or the other won't make a difference. At the end of the day, all the important people will come regardless of the day of week.

Agreed! If they are travelling from out of the country they would have most likely taken a few days off anyway. Out of state might be a little different depending on the drive time, they may not need to take time off for a Saturday wedding. If you really want a 2020 date I think you should go with the Friday. It might be the case that not as many people can make it but it’s your wedding so you should do what is best for you guys.

We are going for a Friday wedding too. My thought is if people want to come bad enough they'll make it work. Our venue offers discounts and perks so for us it is well worth it.

I would do the Friday or pick another venue. My dream venue ghosted me but I found a better one anyway.

If you aren’t getting the day of the week you want anyway-consider a Thursday, most places offer a significant discount for Monday’s-thursdays.

As long as you tell them in advance i dont think ot should be a problem. My wedding is on a Friday & my thought is - if they really care about us they will come...lol.....seriously though. People have already come to me saying "why Friday?!? I work.." Blah, blah etc. So do we lol. But we have people coming in from the other side of the country that have made time and asked off work for us because we told them in advanced. So if they want to come, they will make an effort 😊

I rather have a Friday wedding than a Sunday wedding. Personally. I say go for it if is your dream venue. Like PP said, send save the dates with plenty of time to spare and people would plan according. Since guest are traveling anyways it shouldn’t be a big deal. Wednesday and Thursday flights are cheaper than Friday anyways. Always look at things on the bright side.
Since the venue is 2 hours away I recommend looking for a hotel nearby and find activities for people to do before and after wedding. Make it a little get away for everyone and have your rehearsal dinner close to the venue.
    Good luck!

It is hard for some people to get off of work. I can't make it to my friend's wedding because it's a Friday out of town and I don't have the time off.

We did a Friday wedding and had about 50% attendance. It was on a Friday in June, and several families had end-of-year commitments at schools. My husband's side of the list was primarily out-of-town, but unfortunately most of them wouldn't have been able to come regardless due to finances.

My out-of-town family was able to attend, and almost all of our local guests could come. We planned for the ceremony to start at 6:00pm to minimize people missing work. We planned to end ours at 11:00 because we thought everyone would be exhausted, and to our pleasant surprise people were begging for the party to continue and the only people to leave early were older or had baby-sitters at home.

We knew going into planning that a Friday wedding would minimize our guest list, but it worked for our budget and our local crowd. We got an incredible deal on our semi-inclusive venue by booking a Friday over a year in advance.

We just had a Friday wedding last week, it was a non-issue. Maybe 15 guests out of the 190 invited said the Friday was an issue. Everyone else was totally fine. However, we chose it at a time when many of our guests (teachers) were on break.

Oh and 90 of the 125 that attended were out of state or 4 plus hour drive. The wedding was actually an out of town wedding for everyone except 2 guests, at least an hour drive. 1.5-2.5 for most.

We are having a Friday wedding and I'm actually hoping that keeps our final guest count down. It's your day, others will accomadate if they can. Dont worry about it.

Our wedding is on a Friday and all of our guests are out of state. We assumed this meant that many people we invited would not be able to make it. What's happened in our case is many of our family and friends have decided to extend their trip into a mini vacation as most of them have never been to the state we are getting married in. We have been very pleasantly surprised by the number of guests who have already booked flights to attend our wedding (wedding is in July). I think it really depends on your guest list. We truly only invited people we are close with so they sincerely want to attend our wedding. If you have more acquaintance and obligation guests, you might experience more declines.

We are having our wedding on a Friday at 6:30pm. We figured it would be fine since it is later in the evening. People can take off half a day versus a full day and then have the rest of their weekend to relax.

I’ve been to a wedding on a Friday once. I had to take the day off of work because they lived 4 hours away ☹️ But if your out of town guests come the week or day before the wedding I think it will work out great. They will still have a great time regardless celebrating you and your marriage!

We are doing a Friday wedding. I’m assuming only half will make it to the ceremony and the rest to the reception

Agreed! Normally, I'd say it's super inconvenient for guests who are traveling to have a Friday wedding because they definitely have to take off work to make it, but if they're mostly coming from out of the country they'd be taking days off anyway!
