Friday Weddings

Stacy, on December 11, 2019 at 8:32 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 3 21

What challenges have you faced with planning and/or having a Friday wedding?

We are recently engaged and want to shoot for May 2020, but we are limited to Friday's at most places, due to Wedding season.

As a guest, my biggest roadblock would be with the start time due to work. But if it started later in the evening, around 7 PM, then that would provide enough time to possibly get off a tad bit early and still shower/change clothes and drive to the ceremony.

I think also because it is coming up and some places book a year in advance. I think Fridays can be cheaper. Are you doing inside or out?

I’m doing a Friday wedding. It’s what I wanted from the beginning you can save money and make a whole weekend out of it with guests.

We are also getting married on a Friday! Luckily for us, it's pretty easy because it's the Friday after Thanksgiving so everyone has that day off work anyways. What is nice for you in May is that it's the summer so the work life isn't so hectic so it's a little easier for people to take time off.

    I'm planning a Friday wedding!

Mainly cause it's DW so everyone is flying in. My sister had 2 days she could take off, so it was either TH/F or F/M, so I opted for a TH/F ...that's why the wedding is on a Friday!

We're having a Friday wedding too! We wanted to save a little money and figured that since everyone will have to fly anyway, they'll just make it a long weekend.

A Friday night is great for a DW or local wedding where guests would drive an hour or less to get to the venue.

I was asking because it will depend on the venue but I have noticed that sometimes outdoor venues can be a little bit cheaper. Ask someone did stay earlier I would just keep in mind that usually it is a work day for people and some people may not want to take a personal day so unless you plan on doing it after work hours then I don't think it's a bad thing. But ultimately you and your future husband need to do what is best for you and if that is having a Friday wedding in the morning people can either take the time off or decide that they can't make it.

Welcome to WW Stacy and congratulations!
I have attended a couple of weddings on Friday and the biggest challenge was traffic. I always got the day off to avoid the stress of dealing with work as well. I prefer Saturday wedding but if there’s no option I say Friday is better than Sunday. As long as you send SDT in advance so everyone knows and plans for it then I don’t see an issue.

We are doing a Thursday wedding and people are more than happy to fly in for the DW. if your wedding is close to home, I can't imagine you will meet too much resistance. A few people will complain I am sure, but there are always a few butthurt people no matter what.

Lol. Hilarious and so true. Also doing a Friday wedding in Wisconsin. We decided to have a afternoon ceremony time (3:30) so that people could take a half day at work if needed. Although most are local and we've had a two year engagement so they've known about the date well in advance to take time off.

We are getting married on a Friday, but it is the week of Christmas 12/27. I think the hardest part for most guests is to take the time off of work. Since that is a popular vacation week, our guests haven't really had that problem. Our venue costs have been cheaper on a Friday which is a nice bonus.

We had a Friday afternoon wedding due to availability of our church. We didn't run into too many problems. I told everyone well in advance when it was so they could take time off if need be. We had a small wedding and all of our family seemed to like having an excuse to take a Friday off.

I struggle with Friday weddings as a guest and the thought of them as a bride. They are a great way to save money. However, you’re asking a lot of your guests and bridal party already with travel and gifts. Then, you ask them to take an extra day off of work to come celebrate you. I have also seen brides struggle with the rehearsal since they are asking the bridal party to come on a Thursday. Just an opinion!!

We are doing a Friday wedding with a start time of 6:30PM. The ceremony and reception will be held in the same place. We will be sending STD's even though we won't have many people flying in but we want to give everyone a heads up as early as possible. I've been to Friday wedding's and haven't minded them; actually prefer them; good start to kick off the weekend Smiley smile

Your bank account will be doing a little happy dance for this one as Friday weddings seem to have a slightly lower price tag! The big consideration here is going to be the guests attending the wedding - once you dig into your guest list, try and get a feel for how many people will be traveling a longer distance to come to the wedding or may not be able to attend due to work/travel. For the wedding party this may mean a Thursday rehearsal or earlier in the day Friday - for many with proper notice this really shouldn't be an issue at all so plan away!

Hasn’t been a challenge for me having a weekday wedding. As a guest, I would prefer that over a Sunday evening wedding. But I’m also very blessed to have good vacation time. For many Sunday evening weddings I’ve attended I have to leave early and I see several guests leaving early as well especially those with children.
