Friday Weddings Pros and Cons

Dayna, on September 24, 2022 at 7:38 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 39

Hello!

Have any of you beautiful brides ever had a Friday wedding or is any or you ladies having a Friday wedding in 2024? What are some of the issues that came to the forefront? I am thinking about a Friday wedding because it is a 6,000 dollar decrease from a Saturday wedding at the venue I really want to choose.

Thanks

The biggest issues are about the number of guests who would accept the invite. People generally have to take off time from work so they can get ready to attend. This is more difficult for people who have to travel any significant distance. If the people you most want to attend are fine with these issues, the Friday could work.

Thanks for the input. Majority of my guests live here in the same city only about 10 percent are coming in from out of town.

I had a Friday wedding! We had a couple people decline due to limited vacation time (our wedding was 3 hours from where we live), but otherwise had no issues that were specific to a Friday wedding. There were a lot of people who were able to attend, which was awesome. My sister also had her wedding on a Friday, and she had a similar experience.

I had a Friday wedding as well! Originally we had a Saturday booked but had to postpone due to Covid. The only date all our vendors were available was a Friday and at first we were disappointed, but really it worked out great! We had a few who couldn’t make it due to work obligations, but no major disruptions at all. Hope this helps ❤️

Having a Friday wedding! No issues with people not coming because of that, and we have about 40% out of towners. Most people are turning it into a vacation! (Phoenix in October is gorgeous).
Only other issue is that your wedding party, parents, etc. need time off for two days since the rehearsal is usually the day before.

Congratulations! Your big day is right around the corner. Hearing all of this positive feedback about Friday weddings makes my heart smile! So, what made you chose to have your wedding on a Friday if you don't mind my asking?

Well 2022 is the busiest year for weddings in like 30 years! We booked a year out, but all of the Saturdays in the fall were taken at our venue. So it was either Friday or wait until '23 and we didn't want to wait! It was also about 2k cheaper at our venue for Fridays!

Is anyone sending save the dates a little earlier due to it being on a Friday? As guests might need to make more accommodations, specifically for work, in order to attend?

How far ahead in advance are you even supposed to send the save the dates if having a wedding on a Saturday? My wedding isn't until 2024, so I haven't spent too much time worrying about stationery just yet.

I had a Friday wedding! We had it start at 3:30pm, and we sent out our Save the Dates 6 months ahead with a clear "FRIDAY" printed on it, and sent invitations a few weeks early, too, again with a clear "Friday" on the date so people could make accommodations. What I found:
-non-close friends who lived far away (i.e. college friends who maybe aren't as close anymore) couldn't take the time off work to travel
-family from out of state were a hit or miss. Those that made the trip had the rest of the weekend to remain with family or explore, which I was told they appreciated the extra day before needing to travel back-many friends and family who lived in state had time before the 3:30 start time to still work a half day of work before getting an early start on the weekend.-our guest list did shrink. We invited about 150, and about 80 came. Those that did come, though, were closer (physically or emotionally) to us and in my opinion made the day feel closer and more full of love-and lastly, yeah, we saved a TON on not just venue, but a few other vendors as Fridays and Sundays are considered off days. Many times vendors see these days as extra income and charge a little less. I think our venue, DJ, and Photographer were cheaper in some regard than if we had a Saturday wedding. When shopping for vendors and they ask for your date, make sure you say "the date is Friday, [month, day]. Some may say "oh, it's a Friday?" And cross off the price on their brochure and write down a slightly cheaper price, from my experience.

I’m not exactly sure. Sometimes I see 6-8 months, sometimes I see 9 months. I just feel like people often assume when they get a save the date, it’s for a Saturday and I’d hate for folks to realize too late it’s a Friday

Daughters wedding was a Friday. Really didn't seem to stop people from coming. About 90 percent came

I think this just means we have to have a good sense of who our guests are. Sometimes it may be nice to be able to invite people as a courtesy who are not close enough (relationship-wise) to actually make it. Sometimes we want everyone to come.

I understand exactly where you are coming from. I never looked at it that way.
