Friday vs Sunday Wedding?

Any thoughts on a Friday evening vs. Sunday afternoon/early evening ceremony and reception? FH and I have family scattered across the county, so they'll have to travel no matter what. I'm torn bc the venues I've been looking at are abt an hour outside of DC, and I'm worried that DC folks will have to battle the terrible Friday afternoon traffic. I'm leaning towards Sunday afternoon, but my family, and a few friends, have said to go with Friday evening. I don't want to start the ceremony any later than 5pm on Friday simply because I want to have some daylight for pictures. Thoughts?

We did a Friday evening wedding in DC and it worked well. Most of our guests were OOT and they flew in Thursday night or Friday morning, partied all night and then spent Sat/Sun visiting the museums and monuments. Our intown guests took the afternoon off or just left a bit early (our ceremony started at 6:30). I agree with the others who have said it depends on what atmosphere you want - if you want a party, do it Friday evening vs afternoon and if you want it relaxed...go for Sunday. You should save $ on venues, DJs etc on either day (vs a Saturday).

I had the same dilemma! A friday versus a sunday!! Sundays are better because ur guests have saturday off and have time to come in for the wedding on sunday and is easier to take monday off. But a friday wedding menas your guests need to take thur off and fri off from work. I trully wish you choose sunday instead of Fri. Fri is just so inconveniecing for guests. If most of your guestsare intown, i guess fri could work, but if marjority of your guests are outta towners? then it will be best to do a sunday wedding!!

I am having a Friday evening wedding and I live in the DC area. Some Fridays are better than others depending on where you are traveling to. But I am also having the ceremony and reception in one place. I agree with some of the other ladies, having a Sunday wedding may cut into guest leaving earlier to prepare for the work week, oppose to a Friday when people will most likely take off to have an extended weekend with family and friends. Ultimately you have to go with whats best for you and your FH... Best of Luck in your decision

Definitely get a shuttle if you're doing Friday. However, if you have something earlier, like 5pm, that might be doable even with DC traffic. Is it MD or VA?

The ceremony and reception will be in one spot, and I think I'm going to choose one of my choices up in MD. I just came back from visiting a venue and I think this might solve my problem. They have an opening the Sunday before a holiday Monday. So now I'm thinking that's the best option.

I would prefer Friday night, but if you are starting no later than 5pm, you will have a small turnout. People will have to get off of work, battle the traffic, etc. Even if people try to get there, you might have many guests who miss the ceremony.

Sunday afternoon would probably give you a bigger turnout.
