Freaking out about our florist...help!

Help!

Our floral journey has been painful. We have a very small budget for flowers and live in an expensive area so we had to eliminate a lot of florists based on costs. After a very difficult search, we found one within our budget, with excellent reviews on The Knot, WW and Yelp and with some awards. Yay.

We've paid the deposit the same day I found her Facebook page. (She has no Instagram, which I find surprising. Her website is also not good.) I looked and well, she takes terrible photos. At least, I think its just her photos and not her flowers? None of the photos are professional photos and most of them, the table isn't set etc. so the centerpieces look tiny but I can't tell if its because the table isn't set or the centerpieces are that small! Now I'm worried ours will be too small. The mirrored discs are not even always centered in her photos. I looked at the user submitted professional photos and they did look better. Honestly, some of her flowers aren't really my style. She's done a lot of color schemes that are nothing like mine but...it was what we could afford.

Also, in my email communications with her, I found she didn't really read everything very carefully. Her quotes reflected changes I made by phone but never reflects my attached notes (which are minor). I guess I have to just call her for everything but it drives me insane that she won't update her notes properly.

But...her customers seem happy so maybe she always pulls through?

Now I'm locked in and freaking out. I'm thinking about increasing our floral budget (which we can technically afford but it wasn't necessarily how I wanted to spend the money) to do taller centerpieces because it looked like she was better at those. I'm trying to think of little things I can do to make the flowers or the tables look better. More details, direction, increasing the size etc. Adding chargers or upgrading the silverware proved expensive so I'm thinking of asking her to increase the size of the centerpieces?

Anyone been in this situation with a vendor where you're doubting yourself after? What did you do?

Hey!! I’m so sorry that you are feeling like this about your florist. It is a really good sign that this florist has such great reviews from previous customers and that any professional customer photos look great. This really should help put your mind at ease. I know you mentioned that you were not impressed with the florists own photos, but just because they are not a gifted photographer does not mean that they are not gifted at flower arranging.

If you feel like she is not paying close enough attention to exactly what you want, perhaps you could add them as bullet points so that they are clear to read and easy to check off.

Why are you worried about your centerpieces not being large enough?

Ahhh thanks for the calming words! I’m in total panicked bride mode!

I’m worried because the tables are 72” and I originally said 10-12” centerpieces. 1/4 of 72” is 18” so I’m thinking between candles, table numbers etc, I should stretch it out to 16-18”? Makes me wonder if I should do 12-14” centerpieces instead...? I noticed in her photos a lot of the centerpieces are small and tight so I guess I need to tell her to not make them so tight.

My last email includes bullet points so hopefully that helps. I’m thinking I’m going to talk to her about her thoughts on size, my style differences and make sure she’s comfortable doing that, and ask her to do a sample.

It's a really great idea to visit her in person! You will be able to explain exactly what you are looking for and it will be much easier than sending it over email.

It would be amazing if you could see some samples on size, that would make it a lot easier to visualize what your entire centerpiece will look like, included candles and table numbers.

    I hope it goes well!

We had a chat and she assured me she could do what I wanted and we decided to do a mock up. It'll cost me a bit but it seems worth it given my fears. I think I'm a little more at peace now...thanks for listening!
